the picture shows a 2-6-0 mixed freight loco about to tackle the baxenden bank. more than likely had a banking (assist) loco to get it to the top by hollands pies

At the risk of getting jumped on for being a true geek, the book you need is : Signalboxes on Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway lines (NE Lancashire) by Chris Littleworth, published by the Signalling Record Society 2002, ISBN 1 873228 21 X. There's a challenge for Accrington Library! As regards 'the other train' in the original photo - it looks like empty stock in platform 1 - the Manchester bay. There was also a small goods yard on that side of the station Rgds 45378 |
