Re: Coppice torn assunder?

Blimey Terry i remember those images i probably have a few meself from same year i was always up there i remember the road being built eeeek lol.

My dad told me he & his school helped plant the trees on the coppice, suppose to save mudslides & hill errosion & also to give home to many treee too ....But them tree have grown so i notice now that it looks fuller of trees. I used to hang out in the shelter when it rained & sat on the monument, play in the trenches & remainder of cannon. I will take my monsters up there when the weather gets warmer.

ps .... as its that time of year when are the putting the traditional yearly cross up or is that lost now LOL!!!!

Yup, there is an underpass. If you go past the lodges on your right hand side up to where you can see the road, over the stile and down the field in a Baxenden direction, it`s there. It comes out on the other side of the road and heads up a rough track to join the Kings Highway

It has all changed up there now unfortunately. I remember the days when you could walk along the top (and did) before the motorway. Even used to venture up the rifle range to find spent bullets. Half the hill is now in buildings countrywide (a fine export not).
