Yesterday my ambling took me down Brazenose Street, and the JRL is just across the road.
Now, my visit yesterday was really to take pictures. Nothing else, no shopping(even though I was at 'The Markets'). I couldn't resist going across the road and taking a peek inside.

I absolutely loved it, and could very easily have spent my whole afternoon in there. I took the pics to justify the visit(as if!).
I will be making a return visit sometime to satisfy my need to have a much better look.

This would go very nicely into the current comp.
Please consider it if you haven't already entered.

Yes Frank...I was but it was a different type of busy...it was 'fun' busy.

I enjoyed every minute of it. I was like a dog at a fair...didn't know which way to run first.
I had a great time.

I looked for her thinking you might have her installed in the Witch House.
You must have made it really cushy for her over there.
Glad it made you smile...it made me think of you straight away.

Not sure about "Installed", think stuffed would be the preferred option! And yes, it does appear I've made a rod for my own back with the cushy comfort stakes!

I love days like that, mooching around on my own. Must have been past the JRL hundreds of times when we used to go to M/C at the weekend when I was a teenager. I didn't know the place was open to the public till an old school friend visited from Canada a few years ago. She was a radiographer all her working life and wanted to see a medical exhibition there. You would have enjoyed it - I liked the cafe! I've often been to places a hundred miles away and wished I could re-visit for a day.

I love the way none of the santas you have pictured are not that garish bright red but more subtle shades of brown and maroon - autumn colours. As for the cats - I'll let you have the ginger one - our past feline was a dead spit for the B/W one even down to the white back legs. Judging by the sticker on the bigger mug the price was quite reasonable.

Re: Today in pictures

Sue, I would have bought myself that mug, but I took very little money with me...and what I did take was for something to eat......I could have bought it because in the end I decided to wait until I got back home, to eat.
I wish I had bought it. That is the story of my life opportunities missed!

if you like my pics, you can see more here:

Thank you JCB. Yes, those look like photos that my Dad took. I uploaded them a little while ago. The waterfall was very noticeable in Spring when we first moved in - it was never quiet! Of course we soon became used to the sound of rushing water, and it became part of the experience of living in Rothwell House.

I had some contact with him myself through work, and his access to the property, it was very difficult at the time to get the police to attend.

The waterfall had more water going over it than usual due to overnight rain, but was easier to view as the leaves and weeds had died back.
Thank you Dave Mac. The last time I was there was 1985 (the last time I was in England, in fact). The footpath was fenced off then, but the bridge was still there if I recall correctly.
Incidentally When I lived there I used to fish around in the 'river' for shards of pottery. The house was full of antiques when we first moved in. There was a plate rail all around the living room full of stuff, and two clocks: a grandmother which worked fine, and a huge old grandfather clock. It lay on it's back in the empty front room - dusty and spooky looking.
That house had flagstones in the kitchen. It was full of millipedes, wood lice and of course spiders who feasted on all these.

I really like the totem - there's a lot of detail in it when you zoom in. The architectural details are wonderful in that building - I would love being in it too. The figures in No.9 are a puzzle: the guy on the left seems to be holding a ball of yarn, the middle figure carries a book, and the guy on the right looks like Bacchus with a goblet of vino! There must be some significance to it but darned if I know!
