Re: Walking day for which church? Year??

Kind of a giveaway don't you think. Yep 1946, that's me looking cute in my matching cap and coat. So, what's the exact location of the photograph and which church?

St. John's Bash 1946 is correct. OK where is the photograph taken? It doesn't look that much different now than it did then.

I was about to add that it couldn't be Sacred Heart because we were all made to wear white on Walking Day's. However, my observation seems a bit redundant now.

Approximately 200yds towards Accrington from St. John's. More or less where Southwood Drive is.

Re: Walking day for which church? Year??

Spot on yerself! Just on the Accrington side of Southwood Drive. Of course, there was no Southwood Drive there at that time. Back Lane came out onto Manchester Road and there was a garage, set back, called "Nightingales" if I remember correctly, which they probably had to demolish in order to build Southwood Drive. We lived in one of the small cottages on Manchester Road just to the Accringon side of Back Lane, (# 469) and as we were walking past, I was probably waving to my mum while my dad was taking the photograph.

Well done owd lad!
