Re: Ant farm
Thanks for the advice
I thought it was strange that the eggs where exposed like they are
maybe they are moving, as long as they are not in my house it dont bother me as much...but i have noticed that they seem to running toward my little log fence where my lobelias are.....think i might investigate more.
Was gonna shovel em up but they might bite me... .....LOL

I'd be worried if I lived in darkest Africa panther, but the suberb of Ossy I don't think they bite to much, may give you a little frienly nip occasionoally when they're a bit crammed, but normally your alright

Re: Ant farm
Hate coming on this thread Panther .. gives me the creeps, hope you are handling it.
Just been a discussion on the Jeremy Vine show with a Pest Controller .. very informative for all types of pests, including ants.
Like Bonnyboy said .. first easy recommendation was to pour boiling water on them. To stop them entering your house .. there are 'ant pens' available (is an insecticide) which you you draw along the edges of your door, windows frames etc., if they cross it they will die.
Also, ask for a water based ant killer and not to use stuff like talcum powder as it just blows around.
By the way Westender he did say that it is only the females who develop the wings twice a year to mate ... the males die off (LOL). They then lose their wings 'til next time.
He did say was those little red ants that bite.
Can't remember anything else... brrh ... hope they have gone Panther.

He's a bit off the mark, then, as it's males and females. It would be a bit pointless, when you think about it, if only females went flying about looking for a mate as there would be no ant fellas up there. There would be a lot of frustrated would-be-queens and no new colonies.
