Re: Giant Moth!
I see what you mean, putting the moth pictures side by side, same shape, slightly different pattern.

Re: Giant Moth!
The death's head hawk moth has markings on it in the form of a sort of .......... deaths head. That one of Mummyboo's doesn't seem to have any markings.

Re: Giant Moth!
Willow, if you look at pic 3.......you can see two circular markings like the eye sockets of a skull......now I was told that this is what gives the Death's head hawk moth its' name.....but I will stand corrected if anyone knows any different.

Re: Giant Moth!
Hang on a mo while I find a photo of the deaths head image on the head of a death's head hawk moth.
What we really need here is a moth expert isn't it?

Maybe the moth experts are all too busy signing passports to come on here and advise us

Re: Giant Moth!
I correct myself - it is not on the head of said moth. It is on the thorax. I found this website.
The Mother Shipton moth is interesting, with those two witchy profiles on the wings.

Re: Giant Moth!
None of the pics are clear enough to see if the correct markings are on the body.......so I give up! Not sure what kind of Hawk moth it is.

Re: Giant Moth!
I should imagine so - give them a leaf or two to nibble on when they hatch.
