Any car with a small capacity engine is pretty cheap to insure. I say cheap but it depends on your age and your job and lots of other factors, but without any no claims bonus its always gonna be expensive. Plus living in the bb5 postcode sucks as its group d (a is cheapest to insure f is most expensive). There is a full list of car insurance groups somewhere that i had saved the link to, ill have a look for it and post it here if i find it. Just out of curiousity how much are you planning to spend on your car as i know another link that might be of use if your after a new car.
my son passed is test he was just 18 iis insurance for a 1200 cc fiesta was £2000

All those are supposed to be reasonably priced for young drivers (please note reasonably priced does not mean cheap, as cheap insurance for young drivers doesnt exist).
My girlfriend got a quote from Quinn direct on her Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Comfort - 2001 with very few miles (like under 5000).
Quote was just under 1500.
Quinn direct & Endsleigh seem to be best for young drivers' insurance.
ps - get any car over 1100cc & you'll be paying through your ears for fully comp cover.
