Re: 60s Icons and getting older
robert wycherley or the late billy fury, saw him in 62 on a package tour in blackpool(grand theatre) i think, others on the tour - mark wynter, peter jay @jaywalkers couldn't stand either of them, but fury was that good live i saw that tour in another 4/5 places, to be truthful he was the best live solo artist i ever saw.

Re: 60s Icons and getting older
those package/road tours were a bit of a lucky dip , apart from the "Top of the Bill" the other acts were on they way up , others on the way out , remember seeing the Beatles twice, must have been around 62 , first time they were one the first half , top act was Frank Ifield , second time they opened the second half for Helen Shapiro

Re: 60s Icons and getting older
Saw Frank Ifield sing at the Cabaret Club on Blackburn Rd, Antley - now a snooker club.
Saw the great Eartha Kit at Peppermint Place and the Johnny Dankworth Orchestra at Nelson Imperial.
Artists used to tour small venues then (but Nelson Imperial was no way small -aircraft hanger converted)

So did Nelson have an Airport/Airfield at one time or was the building re-cycled war-surplus or such ?
