Rope swings...

Well you had trees over woodnook water, all the way up Bash. Priestley clough was the best for a ropey over the other side

the tree where we had our rope swings over the brook at rising bridge 40 years ago is still standing and as you can see there is a bit of rope still hanging from it!!!!! :p

Yes, we had fun with those too……and we were frequently to be found by the Highams lodge.
Yes it had railings round it but there was one rail the used to slide out…making a good opening for us skinny kids….in summer we dipped home made nets in the water….don’t remember catching anything other than frogspawn from the lodge.
In winter it froze over……she skated on the shallow bit.
Well, except our Mick….he skated on the deep bit and went through the ice.
I pulled him out using a fallen branch.
He was blue and shivering when we ran the short distance home(Riley’s Hill)…..but Ma warmed his hide very nicely…..and we were sent to bed without tea.
That is how it was back then.
