Yeah...The Old House at Home. Remember being in there one sunday in the 70's waiting for a friend coming up from the south on one of those White Lady Standerwick buses. It was one of the first sundays that football was played at Ewood Park, something to do with the power cuts if I recall correctly. Haven't thought about that in ages. And that cafe was a bun and brew place, don't think you could get any real food there except maybe a tepid meat pie from one of those glass pie warmers (pies were warmed by a 3x15 watt bulbs) that were always full of dead flies.

I think the pub was a Masseys brewery pub, there wasnt many Masseys pubs in accy, Mostly Duttons & Thwaites, Lion, breweries & a couple of Yorkshire Ones & a couple from Manchester. Its nearly 35 years since I was in accy, so I suppose most of them will have gone.

I used to love going to the old baths with my firend at weekend. We would get a cup of bovril on the way out and get an oven bottom muffin fromt he shop across the road to dunk in the bovril as we walked home!

It was Melbourne Street, Janet, and the cafe was next door to the Old House At Home (a Massey pub I believe)

Have been trying to send a photo of Melbourne St just before the Old House at Home was demolished to make way for the construction of Eastgate. However, I must have done something wrong as I kept getting an error message.

But as Mez says -- it was on Melbourne St. In fact I don`t think there is a Marlbrough Street -- There is a Marlborough Rd running from the Old Iron Bridge and up and across Queens Road.

Yes, you're right. That's why the cafe was called the Melbo Snack Bar. They always used to have an ad on the front of the Stanley programme during their league days.
