Re: Birtwistles Temperance Bar

I've not come across this name except to say that it is a common one in NE Lancashire.

Re: Birtwistles Temperance Bar

I've just checked - there is no Birtwistle Family History Society There has been a book on this family. It started in Rossendale I suspect.

Re: Birtwistles Temperance Bar

I think it's advertised as the Last Original Temperance Bar, as far as I can remember it started in the 1890's, there's also the Whistle Stop Sweet Shop & Temperance Bar in Rotherham that opened in 2013.

There used to be a stall on Blackburn Market that sold Sarsaparilla beer that I used to go to every Saturday in the 70-80's.

Re: Birtwistles Temperance Bar

Postcardman - visit the Lancashire Family History Society's website. On the home page is a turquoise block you can click onto to see if any members are researching a name . There are two members interested in Birtwistle. You can send them an email via the society. Also check out the website Curious Fox to see if anyone is interested in the name and you can ask about the temperance bar,
