Re: Elite Snooker Hall.
Definitely "E-light" and so did everyone else I knew. You must have moved in more refined circles, Willow! If you'd told any of the inhabitants of the deck or the Derby that you were going up the "Eh-leet", I reckon they wouldn't have known what you were talking about!

Re: Elite Snooker Hall.
Spent many afternoons up the elite {pronounced} in the late 50s 60s as you say, above Redmans. Remember Roland, quite a character, a few of the players in those days were, Ronnie Power, Jackie Mason, Jack King, to name a few, happy days. Did any body go up{or down} the snooker room under the "Bug Hut"?

Actually willow it's nickname was the dog club, it started as a club where they used to have whippets and the like that miners were fond of racing, I don't know if they ever used it for showing dogs but I will find out, I was a committee man there before being ill, but I still use the place. The irony of this is that dogs are not allowed in now, you are correct about the pronunciation it is known as the 'can9'

Re: Elite Snooker Hall.
I pronounced e-leet. we all did(that is,the people I knew). Also used to frequent occasionaly Walter Lindrums underneath the bughut as has been mentioned. Was too dark and gloomy for me .
Elite was better. Brighter and airy.
