I remember it tosh, used to go regularly, it was owned by Cyril and Winston Whittaker, father and son they also owned the Palladium as well. Its hard to imagin that Ossy had 3 cinemas in those days, the 50s, then they turned the Empire into a dance hall. nearly opposite was a cafe called the Cavern, expresso coffee, pinball tables and duke box great times tosh, I remember them well

the cavern cafe was virtually across the road from the empire, a west indian lady used to have it, had a top juke box, we used to go in at dinner from the tech, until we graduated .............to the "Prince Of Wales"
, only went the empire once or twice, was enough dance halls in accy n travelling wasted valuable drinking time.
