My Goodness Am I Really That old?
I was sat here remembering and gosh how the years have flown, August the 14th 1967 I joined the Navy is it really forty years ago that I was an innocent 15 year old?
At the same time there was a group of ships parked? (Is that the right word?), outside the international boundary broadcasting to the nations youth, Radio Caroline was the most predominant of them, how many of you would admit to remembering the 'pirate radio stations?'.
Would you listen to Radio Caroline again?

Re: My Goodness Am I Really That old?
You saw the death knell of the pirate ships, as it was the very next month, on September 30th 1967, that Radio 1 first broadcast.
Did you have a jolly roger, by the way?

Can't see the point of discussing this when the answer to the thread title is YES

Re: My Goodness Am I Really That old?
I'm like Flashy, I can't remember the pirate radio ships, only being two forty years ago, but I do remember Radio Luxembourg, but the reception up here was terrible.
'Love......hiss......to........hiss....love.....hi ss...you......hiss.....Baby'
I was really disappointed the first time I heard Donna Summer without her hisses. A bit like Gladys Knight without her Pips.

Re: My Goodness Am I Really That old?
I remember Radio Caroline, as it was the soundtrack to my life in the mid-60's. There were actually two Radio Carolines - South and North. The North version was in the Irish Sea and therefore had to cater for a listening audience in Eire, along with pop-mad teenagers on the UK mainland. So in between the Beatles, Stones and Motown records, you were treated to Irish showbands, drinking songs ("Seven Drunken Nights") and Republican anthems ("The Merry Ploughboy"). Quite a varied listening experience!

How sad it is......but I remember all of the Radio stations mentioned.....do any of you remember the DJ's....the only one that springs to mind is 'Ugly' Ray Terris. I don't know if he was really ugly or just used that name as a come on....to get the girls.
