Playgrounds/Children's Recreation

As a kid I used to enjoy the playground at the foot of the Coppice with its long slide, umbrella, roundabout, plank, horse etc. What ever happened to the good old things like that? Can't beat going "up to the bumps" on the plank. Did any children ever suffer any really serious injuries? I don't ever remember anything more than the odd scraped knee. It's so safe these days for kids it's very boring.

I can remember the slide at Gatty Park, I loved that place. We used to 'borrow' waxed paper bread wrappers and sat on them as we went down the slide to make ourselves go faster. Idiotically, the goal was to shoot off the end. Alas, I don't remember ever managing it. Aaaah the golden days of summers long ago.

Best park in Accy was Gatty, monkey bars, sand pit, the lot.

Never liked roundabouts though, always me feel sick.
Remember one girl got her foot wedged under the one at Gatty, and broke her ankle.

Doug, do you remember when Joyce Holt got hit in the face with a swing and lost half her teeth?

I remember something like that happening cazzer, that a long time back. Joyce Holt, eh. A name from a happier part of my past. I remember that I lost my finger nail on the bottom of the sand pit at gatty. God that hurt. I can sill feel the sickness I felt when I did it; I screamed all the way home.
