remember when Sundays were total boredom?

There were no sports played. The Odeon was open for one evening showing (queues round the block). No shops opened. The 2 channels on TV were filled with 'god stuff'. Even the pubs had very limited opening hours. My husband's auntie told me off for hanging out washing.
One seventh of life wasted! -unless you just liked country rambling, which was allowed.

Re: remember when Sundays were total boredom?

Yes i remember when the sabbath was literally the day of rest.Absolute boredom especially if the weather was bad & we could'nt play out.At least we had the sunday dinner to look foward to & a sleepless night worrying about school the next day Oh yes & it felt like Sunday lasted a week. These days we wish it would last a week.

Re: remember when Sundays were total boredom?

It used to be my total chill-out day when I was at school. I even tried to have all my homework done so my Sunday could be totally lazy!

No chance thee days between havings lessons to teach ay church and kids to chase after to make sure they are prepared for Monday, and Busman's Sunday lunch to eat (that's a major task in itself as he doesn't do things by halves)

Re: remember when Sundays were total boredom?

Why? Sundays used to be the only day that we were altogether as a family. I loved sundays that was the day to go out to Blackpool or Morecambe or the Lake District or Dads 'Mystery Tour' or if we didnt go out it was the day for doing the garden or reading a book or playing out with your mates or even doing the homework that you should have done last week and it had to be in Monday morning!!!

By the way dads mystery tour was setting off in the car and you didnt know where we were going to end up. Could end up in Blackpool, St Annes, York, farmyard we ended up all over the place. The only thing me & mum were certain of we'd end up at Salmesburys Kentucky Fried Chicken! and there'd be a churchyard somewhere around. He used to love going rooting through old churchyards and mum would sit down somewhere and me & dad would go through the churchyard and have a race on who could find the oldest gravestone.

Re: remember when Sundays were total boredom?

As a child Sundays were spent at the riding stables, well from being about 10 so no boredom a bit older and it was the day to go to the launderette, if it was my turn. Then after a Saturday night out didn't used to get up till lunchtime, have something to eat, have a bath and go out again
Much prefer it these days, at least now you have the option of going to the shops or pub.

In my time of boring Sundays launderettes hadn't been invented

You're the lucky one Margaret, I hated it when it was my turn, the only good thing learnt how to get my 20p back from the dryer so had money to spend at the sweet shop
