I always thought diddling meant doing somebody out of something, like giving them the wrong change in a shop. I'll have to be careful in future and not declare that I've been diddled!
 I remember my Mum coming home one day excitedly telling us she'd seen a coloured telly in Ken Cleggs. Dad and me rushed down to see it - it was a B/W TV with a poster stuck on the front!

Maybe diddled has a different meaning in USA cause like Willow I always use it in the context of being short changed etc....
