what treats did you get when you were ill as a child, do you still use them now?

mine was, my mum used to make me my pobbies, for those who dont know what they are its, & dont go ugh, its good// take 2 slices bread with butter on, slice into cubes,place in a pan with milk, boil for about 8 mins, add some suger (to taste), simmer for about 3 mins then serve , mmmm i love um & it always makes me feel better. has anyone else any weird (truthfull)favorite remadies they remember?

Yeah, I remember pobbies. My mum used to make me pobbies when i had my tonsils removed when I was about four years old, because solid food was too painful to swallow.

A good slap round ear lugs,an told stop being so bloody soft! no to be truthful kids wer"nt as ill in them days like they are in this modern world.worst thing that happened to me as a sprog was when i was about 8 or 9 year old and i caught my privates in my zip and all the neighbours came round to have a look......

me dad said they might have to send for the fire brigade?

Your lucky Staggers! I had mine pinned to the nappy with a "SAFETY PIN" how bads that. 12 months later my baby sitter set fire to it with a Ronson Lighter, she's still alive and well and lives in church still. I kid you not.

nearly forgot this one,when i was younger i lived over bridge street and one night my elder brother and sister babysat whilst mam and dad went round to commercial,i got sent to bed so i put electric blanket on!i was soon snug as a bug in a rug and went to sleep.The next thing i knew all this shouting and commotion ,the bedroom full of smoke and my brother dragging me out of bed me still half asleep climed back in under the smouldering blankets.Next thing my sister comes running in with a pan of water not satisfied with burning me to death she wanted to electricute me as well!

ooh Mez thank you for reminding me of pobbies. My Mum used to put a pinch of salt in when she was boiling them and I never got any sugar on but apart from that it was the same.

Ooooh, my favourite treat was gripe water. The proper stuff with some alcohol content, not the alcohol free rubbish that kids have to suffer now. I used to fake tummy ache so that my mum would give me a spoonful. I loved it, which probably explains a lot..

Mum always made her own egg nog in winter. We were often sent to school with on an egg cup full. We used to 'forget' something upstairs so we could refill the eggcup before she came back down

Recipie if anyone wants it

6 egg yolks
1 tin Nestle Sweetened Milk(NOT condensed)
1 1/2 refills of the tin above of sherry
1/2 tin whiskey or brandy whichever you prefer.

Whip or blend together.

Pobbies....yeeeuk, Mum used to make them for us and she would put nutmeg on the top......I hated them.....I have an aversion to milk. If I was ill I used to love tomato soup and soggy chips floating in the soup. I was once really ill with quinsy and I really fancied grapes......we were very poor and NEVER ever had grapes, anyway Ma went out and bought a bag of green grapes that cost her something like 5 bob, and I couldn't eat them because my throat was so swollen.
