Re: How long ..

unplug from PC, take to shower, give it a really good washing, leave in airing cupboard/warm, place 24 hours to dry out, will be fine.

One thing that amazes me is the amount of time people spend on PCs and will put up with teh cheapest nastiest keyboards and mice going. In fact, <gets on soap box> how many people have even tried trackballs etc instead of a standard mouse? as the Keyboards/mouse are your only physical point of contact with these things surely its worth spendinga few quid on a better quality/more suitable piece of kit?

I use an old IBM keyboard at work, each key is individually springed, it feels so much nicer to type on ( although its a lot 'louder' than modern keyboards ), equally I haven't used a mouse regularly for > 10 years preferring trackballs and touchpads

Re: Slow Accy Library Computers

I dont like them ball things we had one at work and only 1 person liked it used it for a couple of weeks and they got shut. Went back to a normal mouse. The touchpad i dont like either. Spugs likes it and uses that on his laptop i went up there and tried it i prefer using a mouse and keyboard. Will have to get one because theres no n, b, spacebar, backspace and shift key. Plus after i put it back together again and logged back into accyweb i ended up with 75 ie open i shut them down, and went to turn off the computer and another 30 pages appeared. That keyboard has lasted me 8 yrs so its not bad really ive got my moneys worth out of it.

Re: How long ..

i agree about the old ibm ones. I have one from a PS2 somewhere very loud though.

Not a fan of trackballs. I have a very nice logitech one somewhere. They were £50 when new

Touch pads I can use ok but sometime like the precision and each of a mouse so have a bluetooth one in my netbook bag. I do like the multitouch pad on this for the circular scroll.

Re: How long ..

Well Keyboards obviousy like coffee better than beer, my brother spilt on his and it didnt work for quite a while.
Mine likes food instead - it gets the occasianal crisp dropped on it

Re: How long ..

When I had a desktop I used to regularly strip down manky keyboards, wash them, put the keys in a wash bowl to clean them, then put them in a sock on the radiator to dry them before re assembling.

They have worked for years that way.

Usually needs another keyboard when reassembling so I can see what key went where

If you have spilt cofee in yours then it will need more than just drying out as the dry coffee forms a film between the contacts & can cause further problems, as well as corrosion.
