internet network help

I'm wondering if someone could guide me with instructions on getting another computer to work on my router? I have a netgear router and one laptop connected wireless. We have an old laptop that doesn't have wireless so I got an ethernet cable but I'm unsure how to allow this computer onto the router. I have the MAC address of the said computer and I know how to get onto the router home page but from there I'm lost.

Can anyone help?

Re: internet network help

have you tried just pluging it into the router , usually it will go straight onto teh net if the router settings are standard and is conected by a network cable and not wireless ?

on my router if i go into advance network settings i can view the computers listed and tehre is an option to allow or not to allow it onto teh network

all routers are different , try googleing " how to allow another computer on to the network ( instert router model and make here )

some peopel are even nice enough to put pictures up for you to make it easier

Re: internet network help

if its wired and DHCP is enabled on teh laptop and router ( usually on by default on both) it will just work. The MAC filtering etc only affects the wireless side of teh network.

Re: internet network help

Thanks for the advice. I'll just go back and try again by plugging it in. What sort of connection would this be classed as - LAN? Just so that I can look at the correct symbol in control panel.
