PC Repair

Could I please give a positive mention to PC repair at the bottom of Avenue parade, I was having mega problems with spyware etc however for £40 they wiped my system and installed new anti virus.
I know they had loads of problems sorting it out for me and I have to return with my PC as it's lost its sound but they will sort it out when I can next take my pc in.

The owners were really helpful and my pc works like new (apart rom the sound)

Re: PC Repair

if you have a windows key(bottom left) on your keyboard just keep that pressed, then press pause break key(top right)
a box pops up open device manager and in the long list of devices you should see a sound card mentioned, usually a simple delete from here the scan for new hardware should have your sound back on, the majority of modern systems there are generic windows drivers
hope this helps

If they are so good why did they send out a machine with the sound not working?

Re: PC Repair

cause they didn't bother testing it?

I guess its a case of how much do they test a PC before deeming it fit for end use, Sound I'd probably include but what about testing usb to make sure its supporting v2 and not falling back to 1.1? It probably comes down to cost, the more they test the more it will cost the user.

Re: PC Repair

In IE click Tools, Internet Options, choose the Programs tab and make sure the "Internet explorer should check it is the default browser" option is ticked. If not, tick it and restart IE, when it promts to make it default click yes

I 'd liek to understand why your going back though?

Re: PC Repair

Which last time I looked had a rather large security problem.

For a real solution on Windows try Opera Opera browser: Home page.

However, it sounds that you just had a dodgy install, try downloading the latest version and reinstalling.
I would recommend Opera however with these things it is about finding one that works hopw your brain is wired. Opera suits me and being cross platform I use it on Linux at home and Windows at work(no option on that)

Re: PC Repair

PC repair? is this the company with the shop next to the lingerie shop? if so they are idiots in no uncertain terms. One of their guys turned up at the offices i used to work in as he wanted to get the company into a 12 month service contract and he was a total waste of time, all they wanted was a new pc hooking up and connecting to the network and he barely even managed that. He was in fact more interested in ordering his burger over the phone.
