Re: Windows 10

Actually, I decided not to update my windows 7 to windows 10 so as not to encounter possible issues that I have been hearing around. I'm comfortable with windows 7 already.

I was happy with windows 7 until the computer it was on crashed completely. As I hadn't been on line with it for over 2 years and therefore hadn't had the updates - I wonder if that had something to do with the reason it crashed dead?

It got so I couldn't even access the repair function - this attempted to repair several times and then even that stopped working and I could'nt even get into the BIOS - the whole thing went down and never had this happen before. Any specific reason for this?

Windows 10

Failed component, probably ram, not being able to access bios is definitely nothing to do with Windows.

How dare you?

Everything is to do with windows, even if their customer is too thick to plug their computer in, it must be a fault of Windows10 or some inferior version of their OS.

Even Which magazine puts out a free leaflet for those that can't think for themselves!

E.G. 'I bought a new computer, when I turned it on it was Windows10 I had no idea what to do next',

That tells me that you are a little bit thick and being given far more money than you deserve.

Surely the sensible way of getting a computer is to find one you have a slight chance of understanding before you purchase it?, not to buy it then rely on Which?

Re: Windows 10

One of my friends works in IT helpdesk type work and he was on phone to a customer for quite sometime diagnosing her problem. After her saying she turned it on and off a few times to a black screen he asked her where the button was... It was on her monitor

A similar thing, woman rings up the help desk complains, the guy asks can she check if it's plugged in? Her reply, what? In the middle of a power cut? I can't see the socket.

Another one was after a frustrating hour and a half of stupidity, the guy at the call centre asked, do you still have the box your computer came in?
The reply was yes.
In that case he said put your computer back in the box, send it back to the folk you bought it from get a refund, you shouldn't be anywhere near a keyboard.

Thanks - well it did definitely slow down slightly about 5 months before it crashed permanently - and I had about 5 1/2 years of no problem computing out of it, they don't last for ever - bit like pets and spouses!

Re: Windows 10

I was one of the unfortunates who clicked the exit cross which automatically started the 10 upgrade. What this did for me was demonstrated what tricksters the mob are who made it. Enough of my griping..

10 seems to work OK here although I think its quietly gathering information for them.

Re: Windows 10

Every site on the web collects information, in one form or another. I'm think 10 is like what we had with 98... it works.

Libre office is a perfect FREE replacement. Not tried open office.

So depends on what you use it for. If word is all you use and it's just for personal notes or writing then free solutions are simple. Libre office worth a look at for sure. If you're editing documents by others on office then they are generally compatible.

Any use I can think of for word that I use myself.... Notepad++ takes care of it

Open Office opens ordinary documents, HTML and presentations ok, not tried with spreadsheets or databases.

Both should be ok with anything that you would normally come across.
