Anyone clued up on IPods?

Kels has a new I pod, since getting the laptop back it won't let her "sync" any music, I know nowt about these and she is getting rather frustrated, any ideas? She says laptop is saying I Pod cannot find the disk. She says it recognised the new hard disk but won't let her download onto it.

Re: Anyone clued up on IPods?

Is the USB on the laptop working? I think it is because I am sure I copied all the drivers onto it using a USB stick - then again I may have copied them over the network

Re: Anyone clued up on IPods?

If it recognised the ipod as a hard disk then the USB drivers will be working.

I assume iTunes is installed? ( Be careful if you have music on the ipod you don't have in iTunes or it will wipe them off!!!!!!!!!)

it sounds like its just seeing it as a USB device rather than an iPod, Its so long since I used an iPOd under Windows I can't recall if there are actual 'drivers' for them(Linux just 'works ). If there are try re-installing them

Re: Anyone clued up on IPods?

hey, this is kelsey . I has about £15 worth of music downloaded via itunes before Neil fixed my laptop . I had to re-install itunes and I bought some music but it wont let me sync it to the ipod but my computer recognizes it when I plug it in. It says it cant sync because it "cant find the disk" .

Re: Anyone clued up on IPods?

We have fixed! With the combined might of our 2 tiny minds and Apple's troubleshooting guide for halfwits! Looks like the Ipod needed reinstalling and restarting, unfortunately Kels has lost the music she put on at Xmas with her first I Tunes voucher but at least the damn thing is working now! Hurrah! Thanks for advice though chaps!

Re: Anyone clued up on IPods?

I hate iTunes for the way that it assumes the PC is master and the iPod is slave, why can't when you connect a 'new' to it iPod it ask if you want to import the music from it.

There are tools that can do it of course if you had done it before connecting it......

and of course to clarify teh point guess what Amarok under Linux does..................

you could try emailing iTunes and asking if you can get it back somehow? They must have some record of what you bought previously...

DONT SYNC!!!!

I hate sync on itunes/ipod. You delete your mp3s and then plug ipod in and say BYE BYE! to all your music on ipod.... its pathetic.

On Itunes when ipod is connected click devices - your ipod - and check 'manually manage music and videos' Then you can just drag what you want on your Ipod and delete what you want... this setting saves on ipod, just in case you decide to use another computer.

Also if you want to get music back off ipod.... download a program called Yamipod... this lets you do that!!
