after all you can boot into safe mode, so it's got a good chance of being a recoverable windows fault, (miracles do happen), I can lend you either disk and a recovery tool called 'Mick', if you can pick them up.

It's OK we're on broadband and it's nothing to do with a trojan just a daft PC that has mad tendencies. If I do want to switch it off I can manage to catch it between the off and back on again and switch it off at the wall socket!
