Speed Traps!!

Lancs police are having a major crackdown this week on speeding.
There are aroud 160 speed traps to be set up this week around Lancashire, for some reason they have published the areas??? Apparently Exclusively to Rock FM.... so here thay are:-

Watch out the trappers are about!

In a bid to crackdown on people speeding the police are out in force all week in Lancashire with their mobile radar traps. But so you dont get caught out we have got a list of all the sites theyll be using...

However, although it is the most up to date information supplied by the Lancashire Partnership For Road Safety it is not exhaustive so if you get caught by a camera not on this list, it's not our fault and lets be honest you really shouldn't have been speeding anyway.

The sites are

Re: Speed Traps!!

Cheers Wingy, We have a staff of over 70 lady drivers flying around Blackpool Wyre and Fylde under pressure to get to there clients. I'm sure they would appreciate the advance warning.

Re: Speed Traps!!

160 speed traps - so thats 160 less coppers keeping crime off the streets or investigating previous crimes then?! Nice.......

Not content with dumping concrete onto our roads every 20 metres and calling them 'speed bumps' AND the vast number of speed cameras we have to endure we now have this foisted on us?

After witnessing the woeful lack of road safety displayed by many kids in my area over the last three weeks it has made me wonder what percentage of road accidents involving pedestrian youngsters has actually been the fault of the driver. I have witnessed (on a regular basis) children lying in the middle of the road, playing cricket right next to Burnley Rd during rush hour, continuing to play ball games until the last possible second, walking out of the way of cars as slow as possible etc. etc. to be honest I have seen similar staggeringly unbelievable antics from adults as well.

If only the maths were that simple.
Very often, there is a speed trap set up on Henry Street, Church, close to where I work. One lunchtime, I counted eight police officers enforcing the speedtrap and a total of five vehicles being used; I feel that this is a total waste of police resources. Is there any wonder that so much petty crime goes unsolved and unpunished whilst the police are sat waiting for an easy catch, as the crime comes to them?

Re: Speed Traps!!

A total of 142,500 drivers were stung for straying over the speed limit between April 2003 and March 2004, according to figures released by the county's Central Ticket Office.
From the multi-million pound pot, £3.4m was used to cover running costs of Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety which oversees the county's speed cameras . The remaining £1.7m was profit.
The figures, which are yet to be scrutinised by the Audit Commission, were released as the Lancashire Police Authority discussed plans to arm civilians with laser cameras.
Under the Community Roadwatch Scheme members of the public will be armed with laser cameras and pass details of speeding drivers to their local road policing unit who will issue warning letters.
Volunteers have already come forward
to take part in the scheme which will be launched later this year.

I thought we fought a war in 1939-45 to stop this form of dictatorship sounds like what the nazis did to the jews.

Re: Speed Traps!!

What the hell is this s**t all about! I'd like to see them try and arm civilians with frickin' laser cameras - there would be uproar and plenty more assault cases for the police to deal with!

This added to the growing number of CCTV cameras and ID cards makes me worrying that we are "sleepwalking into the age of the 'big brother' state" to qoute some guy on the news last night).

Re: Speed Traps!!

To late!

Most of the "safety vehicles" active on the speed traps are already manned by civilian personnel. If you notice none of the Ford Galaxies used for the traps have blue lights, instead they are orange. Also they can nab you before the portable trap signs due to the camera signs mounted on the street lamps etc.

Also the scheme is not new, I was speed tested outside Peel Park School a few mths since by 2 civilians with a gun and a notepad! Never heard anything but I was only doing 25 in a 20 thank goodness. Got 6 points already due to the beggars so I now drive carefully!

Re: Speed Traps!!

You're not the only one Wingy.
Arkers borrowed his Old Man's Volvo estate a couple of weeks ago, he'd only gone 400 yards from the house, and thinks he might have got nicked at the same point. He's still waiting to see if an unwelcome envelope drops on the door mat.

Re: Speed Traps!!

Sorry if you thought I was questioning the validity of your post Bazf, its just the downright cheek of the authorities to now get our fellow man/woman to turn grass for minor speed violations that makes me ask "What the hell is going on?"!

Rest assured - if I see any of these civilian busybodies on their powertrip then they'll get a mouthful from me as we have enough to watch out for whilst driving without having to look for 'Coppers Narks' hiding behind bushes.

Its a very sinister practice and one that is quite reminiscent of George Orwells 1984 or Farenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury I think).

It is revolutionary socialism to a tee!!

They know all about such things in this part of Germany (East), and believe me it 'aint funny!!

Next will come the "Newspeak" and then Thought Control (but we've seen a bit of that now and again). Stay vigilant Ceejache :engsmil:

Re: Speed Traps!!

Ceejache I didnt think you were doubting it I thought you might like to look at the whole artical. I just get annoyed to find theres enough idiots out there that think a laser gun will give them power over fellow humanbeings and when coppers get such good pay and only do half a job, crime increases and they concentrate on people speeding,I supose its the safe alternative.
