Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

ok , I've been reading about this 'singer' on various news websites .........someone explain to me the attraction ......I've You-tubed her videos to see what all the fuss is about ......and in my opinion she sucks .. Bigtime......the music is a rip off of the type of stuff Nina Simone did 40 years ago only Nina did it better , the videos i watched/listened to reminded me of the cheap cover singles you could buy in Woolworths on the Embassy lable in the late 50s and early 60s ...................ok , I'm approaching 'old git' status .....but come on folks , she has nothing new to offer , Marianne Faithfull after 40 years on Heroin is producing better music than this disaster.

Just an opinion

Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

Love her or hate her, she must have something about that provokes a reaction, as she has already inspired two other threads.

Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

no looks and no talent, and doing stuff that artists were doing in the 60,s, over rated by the media, thats only my opinion, but she is no dusty springfield or nina simone,2 girls who could give a song feeling and passion

Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

No, i can't see what folk rave about her for...but then I am in the 'apprentice fogey's' age group now so maybe that accounts for it.

Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

I loved Back to Black so bought the album but have to say that it was a real disappointment. Very over rated I believe.

Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

Never heard anything by her, so I've just been having a listen on Youtube and, yes, I agree with you, SJ, a third-rate Nina Simone. Rehab sounds like a Northern Soul record...a very bad one.

dont think she should even be classed as a singer, third-rate is being kind.

Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

In a music world of manufactured blandness, I still applaud her attempt at uniqueness.

In a world of Pussycat Dolls, she's a manky old alley cat, and I like her for that.

If I were a recording artist, I'd much rather be compared to a second rate Nina Simone, than be a first rate Christina Aguilera.

Lightbulb Re: Amy Winehouse...whats the attraction

Being a "music producer" I can tell you the attraction. She has a very good voice, in that it's strong and it can carry a song very well with little instruments, plus she has a pretty good vocal range. This being said, I still think that she is an eyesore to look at and I'm not a particular fan of her style of jazz. So although she is talented, she doesn't use her talent in a way that gives me any joy or pleasure....

She really needs to lay off the smack and booze a little doesn't she?

Hope this helps,

John
