Re: Best Guitarist ever?

They say that guy from Celtic Cross is pretty nifty and also very handsome!!
But I heard he favours Dave Edmunds and if you`ve ever heard Sabre Dance by Love Sculpture you`ll know why.
Huw Lloyd Langton or Steve Hillage when your Trippin.
Albert Lee can Flippin go some.
East Bay Ray
And Definitely Stuart Adamson, RIP

Add `em all together
Whaddya get ?
Zero

Re: Best Guitarist ever?

Personally i admire the likes of 'the edge' from u2 class guitar rifts & distinct to u2 sound i could listen to him solo, as is Brian May again another class distinct guitarist

But then for variation of guitar play would be George Harrison turning his hand from guitar to the Sitar which brought the beatles the experimentation of sound in the late 60's.

Re: Best Guitarist ever?

He is also responsible for me spending 2 of the most boring hours of my life at wembley arena.

Mind you this was when he just changed his name to symbol and refused to play any old stuff. It was **@!£$ tedious though.

Just thought of an awesome guitarist who very rarely gets a mention and that is Bob Mould. (Just listen to Land Speed Record or Warehouse Songs and Stories by Husker Du).

Re: Best Guitarist ever?

Perhaps Jeff Hanneman from Slayer for the best dirty, funky, dark riffs after Black Sabbath. heh

Yeah I forgot all about Hillage - still going strong. Met him at a Manchester Megadog all-nighter about 10 years ago, nice bloke... good tunes.

But Zappa has got to be one of the greatest - taught little Stevie Vai all he knows ;P

Also, if you expand the brief to include bass guitarists (especially if you consider 6-string bass players), squarepusher's pretty good...

Re: Best Guitarist ever?

i wont say "best" guitarist.... really good guitarists known for **YAWN** solos **/YAWN** bore the hell out of me. I tend to lean towards the singer songwriter types...

Johnny marr ( by far not the best, but god damn good! ) him being mentioned isnt a suprise, though anything other than the smiths of his i find quite boring...

mark kozelek/mark eitzel are my favourite guitarists, but not the best by all means.

others

ry cooder, jeffrey lee pierce, bert janch, david rawlings( This guy rocks! ), kid congo powers, jeff buckley

Try 'Boomslang' by Johnny Marr & The Healers, little known great album.
Much much better than his work with Electronic.
