Best Guitarist ever?
Who do you think is the greatest ever?
I personally feel Dick Dale is the greatest. Not only is he a great technical player, but he's also a key figure in Rock history. He's unknown to the majority, excluding maybe Miserlou which was on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack and is the backing track to Black Eyed Peas Pump It track.
On top of that, the King of Surf is also still touring, I think he's around 70 years old.
This man deserves recognition!
Now for the usual barrage of Jimmy Hendrix

Re: Best Guitarist ever?
Interesting thread, cus you just know there's never ever going to be just one.
Musically, it's either Johnny Marr or Joe Satriani.
There is nothing they cannot do on a guitar.
However, as Satriani plays the most boring show ever and Marr ain't doing anything these days, for the showmanship etc. I think it's between Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler and Noel Gallagher (of course ).

No, on the first point, Zakk Wylde is a much better player.
On the second point, WHAT!? Since when did playing a load of power chords make a good player? Not only that, but his music is a blatant rip off of Green Day.

Good post, and some great players mentioned. Satriani is an absolutely amazing guitarist!
