eurovision song contest

ok, I know i am probably so out of date on these things , but does anyone ever watch this show,it used to be huge in the 60' , somehow I came across this link to the Ukranian entry featuring some tranny/drag queen and am wondering what happened to the 'nice' safe acts like Collodagh Rogers (sp?) and Nana Moskouri .
Is the Eurovision still a big thing on UK television or has it gone by its sell by date ?
Think it would be interesting to know what songs from the Eurovision that folks remember and why .........
thanks

It still has it's fans.

They can be quite obsessive.

Most of them are cults.

Re: eurovision song contest

Should have mentioned earlier, I'm one of the cults who sadly watches it.

My thoughts on tonight's show to chose a Song for Europe...

Atomic Kitten Liz-
Post hippy, feel good song. Reminded me of the New Seeker's 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing'.
Looked fantastic, and again the puff ball mini-kaftan was reminiscent of the clothes worn in the Coke advert from the early seventies, that used the New Seeker's song.
Good chance.

Brian Harvey-
Another car crash, were he again ran himself over again.
Return to Jail.
Do not pas Go.
Do not collect £200.

The Brovas-
Great. Probably won't get enough votes to win, but contemporary and street cool.
Loved it.

Scooch-
Way, way beyond camp. They were always Steps wannabes, but Steps climbed the stairs to bad taste Heaven. These lot should look for the stairs to bad taste Hell.
That said they could well romp home and win.

Cyndi-
French girl great voice, and looked beautiful, but just a total mish-mash rip off of 'On the Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond','The Skye Boat Song', and 'Danny Boy'.
Not a chat in hell's chance.

Justin Hawkins-
The Rock Opera pastiche used to be funny and charming, but the joke is over now. Terrible song, although his singing partner had a great voice if you strained to hear her over the synthesised backing track.

Used to love Euro vision and always used to buy the winning single, haven't watched it in ages now.

Re: eurovision song contest

Used to watch it when I was a kid. Watched the results show last year for the first time in ages and couldn't believe the politicalness of the voting - Cyprus voted for Greece and Greece voted for Cyprus - Norway, Sweden and Denmark all voted together, Bosnia, Croatia and the other eastern bloc old states voted for each other. Huge joke if that's what it's based on.
