There is no excuse for domestic violence, even his part in creating rock n roll won't suffice.

I was only making the comment that Turner's contributions to rock n roll, as great as they are, do not excuse his actions in life, as some people (away from this thread btw) have implied.
I would not take anything away from Turner's (or Lennon's) musical achievements at all, you all know how big a fan of rock & roll I am. However I do not hold them as people in high regard at all.

Neither do I, nor Chuck Berry (imprisoned for 5 years for transporting a 14-year old female over the state line, accused of installing video cameras in the female toilets of a restaurant he owned) or Jerry Lee Lewis (married his 13-year old cousin). In fact, I'd probably cross to the other side of the street to avoid talking to them, but they sure could rock 'n' roll. And, as for Wynonie Harris...
But, yes, you're right, Shakey, that doesn't excuse their actions. Just don't ask me to stop listening to their records!

Re: Ike Turner dies
So what about Gary Glitter and Jonothan King then?
I didn't know John Lennon had been violent. So much for all that stuff about world peace.

Yes, but they made crap records. We're talking about people who made great music, despite their shortcomings as human beings.
