Julian Cope-flawed Genius?

Been listening to The Teardrop Explodes/Julian Cope.Anyone else on here familiar with his music think this bloke was a musical genious or acid casualty.Avoice that betrays his scouse roots & sounds more 'middle England',proborbly the more inventive of Liverpools crucial three(with McCulloch & Whyllie).Top geezer who marched against the poll tax,thought he was a druid,wrote a song about Robert Mitchum & appeared on his album sleeve with a turtle shell on his back('Fried';too much LSD). Had'nt heard him for ages,great stuff imo.'Sunspots'...top song.

Loved his music but he always came across as a tortured genius - if he was starting out now I suspect he'd be mates with Pete Doherty.

Sorry Gayle but i think Cope had more musical talent & intuellect in his pants than Docherty could ever hope to have.OK,his drug misuse was off the radar like potty petes but he could still knock out a fine tune well off his face.Copey would'nt lower his self to knock about with Docherty.He's a great British eccentric who made fine music & should be recognised as such.

Musically I wouldn't put them in the same category at all and I did say Copeland was a genius but even so, they'd have plenty in common.

Julian Cope Presents Head Heritage

Gives details of all the Copes current activities, including the Eric revival gig on September 12, supported by Pete Burns. I`ve seen Copey quite a few times over the past couple of years and has never been less than entertaining!!
