Well deserved in my opinion. I think they are great! And at least we know theres going to be one good performance at the awards.

I liked them, back in their day, but I can think of other bands who have made a far bigger contribution to British music, even though many may see them as a worse act. Spice girls and Oasis are the first two that spring to mind. Even if you don't like their music, you'd have to admit they are more likely to be recognised worldwide than the PSB.

The Spice Girls and Oasis have both already won this award. Spice Girls in 2000 and Oasis in 2007.

This is a band who have had 55 singles, 9 studio albums, aswell as 22 other types of albums (eg EP's, compilations etc) They have also produced and remixed tracks for the likes of Blur, David Bowie, Madonna, Robbie Williams and The Killers, they have also had 7 books written about them. Theres not many other groups that have made a bigger contribution to British music, especially not those neanderthals Oasis!

It all depends on what you call music Lolly I think your portrayal of Oasis is spot on, poor mans Beatles

Re: Pet Shop Boys to receive Special Brit Award
Okay, fair play to PSB.But should'nt music be about quality & not quantity.Any muso can knock out 20 albums but if,say,16 are crap they might as well give them an award for most rubbish songs produced in a career.Oasis could well be the first recipients of this award.
I've never believed in these music awards carry on.I personally think there's a lot of skullduggery going on with the record companies just to increase sales.I'm sure if an album is given an excellent review in the first place, that in itself plus airplay is enough to warrant excellent sales.

Didn't know that - I don't really pay attention to the Brits. It's very telling that at least two younger bands than PSB have won the achievement award before PSB did, though...

Agreed. And it's worth remembering that peoples' musical tastes change, so if the bands don't change too, the only way they can continue to make a contribution is if they appeal to a new generation.
Music is a bit like football- one person's opinion is another person's incitement. I think there are bands better suited to an "outstanding contribution" award, but at least I can acknowledge PSB have produced some good stuff in their history. Classing Ozzy Osborne as a living legend is, frankly, ridiculous. (Don't jump down my neck for that one- I'm sure all the Ozzy fans are going to see that as a personal attack. It's not, it's just an opinion...)

liked early sabbath, but living legend- NO WAY. as fer the PSB.s couple of half decent records a lot of dross, these awards are a joke.
