2016/17 Prediction League; Game 32 v Doncaster Rovers (away)

I have some Good News and some Bad News ................. the Good News is that we are one of only three teams who can do the double over Donnie this season, the other two being Plymouth (no surprise there) and Blackpool (who sort of have already done the double, although it was in the EFLTroffy)........... Donnie, as you’ve probably seen, have a current League record which reads P32 W19 D7 L6 GF61 GA38 for 64 points and 1st place (6 ahead of Carlisle, and 3 ahead of Plymouth, who have a game in hand; we’ve got two in hand, but we’re 31 points behind ...................). Of those 6 losses, 6 were away from home (Stanley 2-3, Crewe 1-2, Blackpool 2-4, Plymouth 0-2, Carlisle 1-2 and Luton 1-3), which means that the Bad News is that Donnie are unbeaten at home in the League (W11 D5 L0) .......... and we’re playing at the Keepmoat

They haven’t been very active in the transfer market since the summer; they brought in def Frazer Richardson (Leeds, Charlton, Southampton, Middlesbrough and Rotherham) from the Millers on 30th August 2016, and released him on 3rd January 2017 aged 34 after just 4 games; they also signed up striker Alfie May (who, of course, May not) from Hythe Town, Runcorn Linnets’ MF Tony Donaldson (and promptly loaned him to Telford) and Man City’s 6’ 4” Irish GK Ian Lawlor ........ they transferred out forward Nathan Tyson to KilliesofScotland, German GK Thorsten Stuckmann to Partick Thistle, and released Frazer Richardson (see above) and French forward Djombo Dany-Gael N’Guessan (29) .........LoanSignings include Villa defender Niall Mason, Everton’s MF Conor Grant and Chelsea MF Jordan Houghton – whose season, sadly, seems to have ended by injury – he having been very influential in the League for them so far ..............

Their Cups didn’t Runneth Over; they exited the EFL Cup at Round One (2-1 at home to Notts Forest), the FA Cup 2-1 at Oldham (also in Round One) and the EFL Trophy in Round Two at home to Blackpool (8-7 on penalties after a half-Desmond) ......... between 12th November and 28th January they played 13 League games, winning 11, drawing 1-1 (at Man’s Field) and losing 2-0 at Plymouth .......... their last four, though, have been less impressive; 1-1 v Morecambe, 0-0 at Newport, 1-2 at Carlisle and 1-1 v Luton ...........P4 W0 D3 L1 GF3 GA4 for 3 points, the worst record among the League leading sides until you get down to 10th place Wycombe, who’ve lost four out of their last four (and 5 of the last 6)

Leading scorers are FW John Marquis (18), FW Liam Mandeville (10), MF Tommy Rowe and FW Andy Williams (last heard singing “Moon River”) both with 9, and Club Stalwart – their only player ever to reach 500 games for the club - James Coppinger (8) ...................

If you’ve forgotten, we met for the first time in over 50 years on the first day of the season back in August – Aaron Chapman conceding (and then saving) a penalty in the first minute, Rommy’s go-ahead goal on 8 minutes being matched by Rowe’s 12th minute equaliser, Matty P’s 29th minute30-yarder giving us the lead once again, which lasted until 82 minutes in, when Williams leveled up again, and GoldenBoy finally winning it for us on 90 + 1 .......... bragging rights to us, then ........... so far!

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm this Saturday, 25th February ..............first real chance to check our progress, this; we did it at the Wham ............ can we do it in South Yorkshire? Double Green Stamps if we do!

Good luck to everyone! ..................... Keep the Faith! ............ And thanks for playing! ......................
