Re: 2018/19 Prediction League; Game 45 v Plymouth Argyle (home)

The Gap Is Two As Wynonie Misses His Big Chance

Well, that was quite an afternoon

Meanwhile in the Prediction League, we were mostly keeping the faith in an attempt to secure the trapdoor in a closed position. So 3 or 4 points to almost everybody, to start with …… oh, wait, who's this featuring amongst the 4 fence-sitters - no other than Lord Stiffupperlip!

Now, you thought the relegation permutations were complicated after the win at Donny? Not any more …. . Well at 5-0 at the end of normal time, our "as it stands" table had Kiwi John (predicting 2-0) scoring 4 points against Lord S's blank for 1-1. Level on points, level on maxis, Lord S still ahead by 1 correct result …… then Harvey sticks it in his own net and the noble Lord's lead stretches out to 2 points again. So next Saturday, Kiwi must get the result (but not necessarily the score) right to be in with any chance, and if Lord S gets it right too, Kiwi needs a maxi with Lord S not getting any bonus points - that would leave them level on points and Kiwi winning by 1 maxi. And if Kiwi gets the result but neither score right, and Lord S gets the result wrong, but picks up a bonus point, they will be level on points, level on maxis and level on correct results - and there are no more tiebreakers available ! Now, were you paying attention at the back I'll be asking questions if I see any of you at Fratton next Saturday ….

Elsewhere in the table, nobody ever predicts 5 for Stanley except Wynonie Harris - but his pills were working this week and he only went for 4-1, so only got 4 points, the same as those who went for 3-1 or 2-1. Life's just not fair, sometimes …..

The fence-sitters were obviously likely to lose ground, as did Monkey Hangar who went missing and dropped off the podium, being replaced by Accytom18, and down to 6th, also below D3N and NigeB. Football 19 also went awol, letting Mab slip by him into 7th and dropping out of contention for the final podium place. Taypot's reward for indecision was a sharp drop from 9th to 14th, and Stevie R and LongLostSon allowed me to pass them both on my way to 22nd .

The difference between 3 points and 4 meant Leylandii and Outback Ozzy squeezed into the elite and Cashy slipped out again.

So roll on Pompey. If they win their game in hand in midweek (home to Peterborough), beating us will give them automatic promotion if either Luton or Barnsley slip up. Could all become a bit twitchy late on, or after the match - but 13th place is at stake! Why shouldn't we finish the season with 4 wins out of 5?

On Stanley On!!

That's it, chucking the pills out of the window. Going back to performing ancient Inca rituals to make my predictions next season.
