Accrington Stanley has today launched
Save our Stanley, the official campaign to raise money to satisfy HM Revenue and Customs demand for £308,000 in just under eight weeks.

Already much has been said about the problems that the club is facing, and while we are happy to continue to answer any questions about this, today is about outlining our plans for the coming weeks and ensuring that the future of the football club is secure.

The club will be seeking to tap into the goodwill of all who support Accrington Stanley, whether they be supporters who regularly come to our home games, people who live in and around the town and want to see their local club survive, or people from further afield who have an affection for our famous club and perhaps follow other sides but see us as their second team.

We have been heartened by the messages of support, literally from around the globe, reaffirming our belief that there is a strong affinity for our club that goes well beyond the game of football. Fans of other clubs are already making plans to help, perhaps most notably our friends at Bury who are supporting a bucket collection at the weekend and planning to come to our home game against Darlington next Friday, and indeed our own supporters have already started to put plans into action to assist the cause.

Website and telephone and text fundraising services

Today we launch www.saveourstanley.co.uk, a website that will be used to keep supporters updated with regards to activities that will be taking place and totals raised from various events. On it are details of how people can help the club, with the ability to make a donation by post, telephone, text or online.

We have set up a dedicated telephone service that will collect a one off donation of £1.50 from the caller. The number is 0907 706 4648, and we would specifically hope to appeal to the large number of people that we know that around the country that have an affection for the club. Also supporters can make a one off donation of £5 by texting ACCRINGTON to 80777 or £10 by texting STANLEY to 79988.

Activities

Fundraising activities officially start on Saturday afternoon with a bucket collection at our match at Bury that will be coordinated by the Stanley Ultras. The club will be working closely with the Ultras in organising a series of bucket collections over the next few weeks.

A calendar of events will soon be posted and maintained on the Save our Stanley website, with details of activities being run by both the club and by supporters. Plans are now underway for a high profile football match to be played in the next few weeks, details to be announced shortly, together with news of a number of other events such as dinners and sponsored activities that will bring in significant sums to our cause.

The next few weeks

There is a lot of work to be done over the next few weeks, and never has the phrase many hands make light work been more prevalent. The club welcomes and indeed needs the support of all who hold our club dear, and we are confident that together we can raise the money required, get the club back on a secure financial footing and continue to progress in the Football League.
