Gordon Stones passed away this week, a great player at Peel Park R.I.P. Gordon, condolences to his family
|
Re: Former Players!
Condolences to Gordon's family. Stalwart of the late 50s squad.
How times have changed...his appearances in his last two season were limited because of his National Service call up. It was a late call-up because, as a miner, he'd previously been exempt! |

Just a shout out to Sean Maguire, been out injured for 5 months & came off the bench today to score 2 for Preston

Re: Former Players!
Not seen Pierro Mingoia's name on the Cambridge team sheet for a while.
I am presuming that he is still injured with a groin problem he has had since Christmas or does anybody know anything else?:idunno: |
Re: Former Players!
You're right choirboy, Pietro's still struggling with the injury that's kept him out since Christmas - a hip injury I think, some of their fans were saying they don't think he'll be back this season
|
Re: Former Players!
Thanks for the update AccyMad.
That's a real pity for Pierro and I hope that he gets fully fit soon. He was a real favourite when at Stanley.:mosher: |

Re: Former Players!
According to Wikipedia Matty Pearson has made less than 10 appearances for Barnsley.
Anyone know if this is due to injury or is he just out of favour? Would love to see him back. |
Re: Former Players!
Both.
However you have to be honest. Matty is not a Championship player. Unless Matty was prepared to take a cut in wages no way is he coming back - in fact I can’t see Coley being interested. |

Matt Crooks since leaving Rangers:

Re: Former Players!
The Dirty Huns never took to Crooksy.
|
Re: Former Players!
He could do a lot worse than sucking up a pay cut and coming back here to rereinvent himself
|
Re: Former Players!
He didn’t take his chance, possibly because he didn’t want it enough.
A real shame as I thought he would be good enough for the championship , which is a higher standard than the Scottish premiership |
Re: Former Players!
Didn't injuries play a part?
|
Re: Former Players!
You can’t get 13 yellows and numerous red cards on injuries ....... that’s just indiscipline.

Nicky Hunt released by Notts County (so were Alan Smith and Shola Ameobi); if you missed it, Andy Mangan released by Tranmere
|
Re: Former Players!
Out of the ex players out there, barring those plying their trade at a higher level, I think Matt Crooks, Matty Pearson, Tom Aldred and Gary Roberts would be welcome additions to the squad,
|
Re: Former Players!
I wouldnt be massively interested in Roberts as his wages would probably be way higher than what his age and legs could bring to our squad. But maybe he'd be open to a coaching role as well as registering as a player?
Fantastic player, dont get me wrong - just think that he'd only be a bit part player now |
Re: Former Players!
Think Crooks injuries killed his chances at Rangers.
He did well in div1 last season, indeed,Wigan were interested, but Northampton put the contract in black and white for him to sign. Love to see him injury free for 18 months and we wish see how good he is,i personally rate him very highly. |
Re: Former Players!
I always rated Crooksy.:)

Re: Former Players!
Apparently Matty Pearson has signed for Luton!! That's him off me Christmas card list :(
|
Re: Former Players!
Indeed he has. All about the $$$$$. Good luck to the kid. Can’t beat those three year deals.
|
Re: Former Players!
Now I’m assuming there was no sell on clause. Just shows you how the market is slanted against the small clubs. We get robbed Barnsley make a tidy profit.
|
Re: Former Players!
That wouldn't surprise me at all.
|
Re: Former Players!
We don't get "robbed" on outgoing transfers and we do have "sell-ons".
It's Andy's decision not to announce the figures; a decision I think it right. |

Appreciate that. However do you think Matty is worth considerably more today than he was when he left Accy ? Don't get all defensive it's not Accy's fault. |
Re: Former Players!
To me we got good value for him when he went to Barnsley. We paid nowt to get him from Halifax. (free agent)
Did his spell at Barnsley make him a better player? Last I heard via our lads was he spent most of his Saturday afternoon's watching Jeff Stelling on the box!! |
Re: Former Players!
How do you define good value ?
|
Re: Former Players!
It will be interesting to find out if we did have a sell on clause ......... because Barnsley have a nice one in the contract with Luton.
|
Re: Former Players!
"Speaking to the club’s official website, Reds CEO Gauthier Ganaye hinted at a sell-on clause as part of the deal too, saying: “We’ve made the decision as Matty is wanting this season to play week in, week out, which we can understand and we were happy to help him satisfy that need as well as protecting ourselves as a club. “Despite him being here just a short time, Matty was a great lad around the club and we feel this is a mutually beneficial move. “It was in our interests as a club to get a good deal, which we certainly have done by making a profit on the player and also retaining an interest in his future.”

Re: Former Players!
He’s the type of player who was playing semi-pro that I previously mentioned
Wasn’t TomDavies another,Beckles etc.. Think morecambes just signed a young forward from Stockport. Even Sean was playing at Stalybridge one time Saying that,Coley is probably aware of anyone who puts in a decent season |
Re: Former Players!
Luton fans seem to think the deal was worth over £500k. Barnsley fans think they signed him off us for 500k.
Another thread theyre talking amongst themselves as to whether Jordan Clark is on his way there |

Its Jason Oswell that Morecambe have signed from Stockport . 29 goals last season in 45 games and we had to beat off competition from Port Vale and Lincoln among others apparently. Then yesterday we signed Andrew Tutte from Bury and this time we beat off competition from Oldham and Carlisle among others to sign him. It does seem as though our new owners are giving Jim something to work with at long last ! |
Re: Former Players!
Glad there's some good positive news for you Morecambe Red, Tutte should be a really good signing

saw him a few times last season. excellent pre christmas but went off the boil a bit in the new year. will or should score for you given the right service and jim bentley can get him re motivated as he seemed to loose a bit of a nasty streak he had. |

Quite agree to be fair, but its sad to see players have a break out season and move on at the first opportunity - only to see them fade away. Not too many move on from here and actually kick on, suggests that that we DO get the best out of them
