Just been reading about Phil Edwards getting a bad knee injury in pre-season training with Bury, that needed an operation which apparently went quite well.
I hope that he gets fit soon and that he can have a couple of good seasons before 'ano domini' catches up with him like the rest of us.

'Sun Bed' Phil was one of my favourite players during his years here at Stanley!:alright:
Good Luck Phil!

Let's move on. I think Ross Sykes will be every bit as good as Jimmy Dunne. It would have been unfortunate if Dunne had returned to us - and relegated Sykes to a place on the bench. I think it's now time to allow Sykes to develop as our own player.

Yes, it breaks our Hearts.
Poor old Burnley were one of the ten or so Premier clubs that would have made an operating profit even if every home game had been played behind closed gates. The Premier League Inc. has reached the point where fans at a game are no longer necessary.

Every loan deal is different;

It's basically down what the loaning club wants and ASFC accepting these terms.

ASFC have have brilliant deals ( with a very popular player) and some not so good details when we've slightly "panicked".

Yes clubs can dictate a player pays by increasing the amount of money we have to pay ( sort of a fine)

To me its unreasonable to loan a player out to make money, a loan should be to help the lad improve, give him game time etc, it should be all about whats best for the lad in my view. to be loaned out itsobvious yer manager thinks yeh aint ready for a run in yer own side?

thats why they introduced the loan system in the first place. no reserve teams competitive football like there used to be so it gives a player their only chance to improve. it was never there just to make premier league clubs a bit richer.

Loans take on a mixture of agreements.
Some are happy to let the player go - but insist he plays or gets recalled.
Some want his wages paying to the parent club by the loaning club.
Some will share the cost .........
Dunne is an asset so like it or not if his services are needed there's a price to pay.
The Jocks didn't grumble.
What if during the loan he were to get a serious injury for instance ?

Not if he isn't playing for them.

Since the early 90s players count as assets on the books. You would ideally cover amortization and wages to keep your head above water, but those who have no idea shout loudest.

The one decent chance Kayden had against Wednesday went down the pan when last season loan Jordan Thorniley took the ball off his foot. He's a regular for Wednesday now along side Tom Lees.

Yes that's true. The more able, versatile players do get moved into other positions. Less versatile players only play in their own position. Is it fair and is it right? Well who knows. I guess if you asked Ben if he would rather play left back or sit on the bench, he'd probably say I'll play left back?......only one man picks the team and he decides who plays where.

Tom Lees doesn't score many goals but he is one of the best ever defenders to wear a Stanley shirt!:alright:
Hmmmm .......He played right back for us but plays at centre back for Wednesday!

For me Janoi was another super Right Back for us but has been played at Centre Back for Ipswich!?!?:idunno:

When I played as a lad I preferred to be in midfield but because I was pretty quick and could also kick well with my left foot I got stuck out on the left wing more often than not because no one else could play there!
Having said that I still scored plenty of goals cutting in onto my right foot like Sean Mac does and made lots of goals for my Centre Forward who used to get a 'Tanner' for every goal he scored!"..........
.........I got nowt!
I remember scoring a couple of 'Blinders' with my left foot too when I just flung my left foot at the ball and caught it right....Whooosh!!!!!

Sure, the more versatile players get moved around a bit and are often played 'out of position' but the Managers know who is doing a really good job for them even if the fans don't always get it!

Basically .......players have to be prepared to play wherever the Manager wants then to play!
And the best players do it well!

Re: Former Players!

I find ANY Premier League club that charges a loan fee are an absolute disgrace to be honest. The amount of money that's awash in the top flight is outrageous and to "charge" to borrow a player is dreadful.

Dallison came with Hornby-Forbes on loan from Brighton. He was a big lad, centre back, but, knowing Stanley, he probably was put in at left back. Sat with his dad at Oxford but didn’t see enough of the lad to make any judgement. Hornby-Forbes was in the giant-killing Newport team in last weekends Cup match.
