Re: Former Players!
Trying to take my mind off this Saturday I just noticed that Mr. Kurtis Guthrie is currently playing for Forest Green Rovers (aka Painswick Reserves) in the first leg of their Conference play off. Good luck to him.

Interesting to see Micah Evans has been released by that giant of the footballing world Stockport County. He did seem to have a talent, shame he never used it and just wasted his career

In Bardolino today I met a face and a name from the past !...
Does anyone else remember Alan Davies who scored the winning goal in Stanley's 2-1 win over Formby on their return to Soccer on the 15th of August 1970 ?. Glad to say he looked fit and well and still has the Club close to his heart !. It's a small world methinks !. |
Re: Former Players!
Jay Bell and a few of the other ex players will be in attendance today.
Lee Mcevilly is still waiting for his invite from the club |
Re: Former Players!
Who are the other ex players Davo?
Heard they're saving Lees invite for end of season awards ceremony... |
Re: Former Players!
Jay's been a few times lately - he was definitely in the Crown to witness the madness that took place after the York game! :)

Re: Former Players!
Congratulations to Podge & his Grimsby team mates on their promotion to League 2 - if we don't manage to turn things around on Wednesday at least there's another northern team in there

Re: Former Players!
Only one of these rumoured/confirmed signings for the Shrimps gives me cause for concern and that's Shay, who would be a big loss imo. Shrimps message boarders, in their latest amusingly gloating thread, whilst correctly pointing out his poor looking scoring record, are obviously not taking into account the fact that Coley has been reluctant to use him other than as a late sub for his golden boy, whose unfortunate re-signing looks dafter by the week! Let's see who Andy Holt's "next level up" signings turn out to be before we worry too much about our cast offs.;)
|
Re: Former Players!
Whilst we've (I think) have agreed to disagree on Mr.McConville Redraine - I wholeheartedly agree that we cannot afford to lose Shay - fingers crossed that the departures we have suffered are the last & that we can keep the rest of the squad together - got everything crossed
|
Re: Former Players!
Reckon I'm on my own in that I'm less bothered about losing McCarten than anyone else.
The lad is useless off the ball and can't pick out a pass. Great finisher and will beat 3 defenders and stick it in the net once every 10 games but I rather gamble on a new starter than base out team around him. |
Re: Former Players!
Shay is a great player, Was hoping and still hoping that he will sign up and take Windass place in the team and get a run in the team be deserves!
|
Re: Former Players!
Agree with you Sam. Mcarten has his attributes but I don't see him being a player that can play a pivotal role such as the one Billy Kee played this season. He seems to either light a fire or be awol. Maybe that's a confidence thing cos he's inevitably on the bench. If he goes, wish him well, he may decide that a clean break is best for him. That would leave an opening in Accy's squad for someone who may have been knocked back at a bigger club and is 'hungry' (Coley's buzzword) for a second chance

I think Jim Bentley sees Shay McCarten as a similar replacement for Jamie Devitt who seems likely to be moving on. |

|
Re: Former Players!
Good luck to Liam (or Wonky 2 as we affectionately christened him - don't worry CC, name was nothing to do with his playing ability, just that his no. was wonky on his shirt in pre-season friendlies & it kinda stuck) :)
|
Re: Former Players!
Mr. Wakefield seemed a decent enough prospect but struggled to keep a regular place in a pretty strong defensive back four last season.
|
Re: Former Players!
Wasn't a bad player,so certainly good enough fer you lot C.C.:D
|
Re: Former Players!
We are announcing a couple of new signings this week and looks like McCartan may well be the other one.
Winnard , Wakefield , Murphy , Molyneaux , McCartan. I wouldn't mind Buxton too ! |
Re: Former Players!
Good player Liam, probably his strength is his defending.
Tall, quick and good on the ball and can play centre back. Matty and Buckos form limited his appearances, never did anything wrong for me. |

Its difficult to grasp how we decide who is deserving and who isn't. Time served? Goals scored? I don't understand why some of our players (who have all done their best for the club) get criticised for leaving in a supposed sideways move and others don't.
|
Re: Former Players!
Proccy's loyalty to Stanley could never be questioned, after an horrendous injury he's decided to pick up the career he chose to study for once it was time for him to hang up his boots & the very best of luck to him.
Going from player to qualified physio is hardly a sideways move, some of us might not have any affection for Portsmouth but I'm sure they'll have cracking facilities which will help Andy to progress further down his new career path. |

Re: Former Players!
Contracts are negotiated between (and for the benefit of) two parties. At the end of the contract neither party has an obligation to sign another one.
I get that player to physio is not a sideways move hence the apostrophes around sideways in my first post and the word 'supposed' in my second. It was a tongue in cheek reaction, primarily aimed at those giving Tom a hard time on here. I would find it ridiculous that anyone would criticise Proc, in the same way as I find I ridiculous that anyone would criticise Tom. |
