seen him a couple of times and looked disinterested but you could see he had something. my lad who goes regularly said he was like that every game. one of many who thinks they are better than they are. effort and dedication are as important as skill.

Does anyone else remember Alan Davies who scored the winning goal in Stanley's 2-1 win over Formby on their return to Soccer on the 15th of August 1970 ?.
Glad to say he looked fit and well and still has the Club close to his heart !.

Only one of these rumoured/confirmed signings for the Shrimps gives me cause for concern and that's Shay, who would be a big loss imo. Shrimps message boarders, in their latest amusingly gloating thread, whilst correctly pointing out his poor looking scoring record, are obviously not taking into account the fact that Coley has been reluctant to use him other than as a late sub for his golden boy, whose unfortunate re-signing looks dafter by the week! Let's see who Andy Holt's "next level up" signings turn out to be before we worry too much about our cast offs.;)

Whilst we've (I think) have agreed to disagree on Mr.McConville Redraine - I wholeheartedly agree that we cannot afford to lose Shay - fingers crossed that the departures we have suffered are the last & that we can keep the rest of the squad together - got everything crossed

Re: Former Players!

Reckon I'm on my own in that I'm less bothered about losing McCarten than anyone else.

The lad is useless off the ball and can't pick out a pass. Great finisher and will beat 3 defenders and stick it in the net once every 10 games but I rather gamble on a new starter than base out team around him.

baldy 04-06-2016 23:04

Shay is a great player, Was hoping and still hoping that he will sign up and take Windass place in the team and get a run in the team be deserves!

Reamer 04-06-2016 23:32

Re: Former Players!

Agree with you Sam. Mcarten has his attributes but I don't see him being a player that can play a pivotal role such as the one Billy Kee played this season. He seems to either light a fire or be awol. Maybe that's a confidence thing cos he's inevitably on the bench. If he goes, wish him well, he may decide that a clean break is best for him. That would leave an opening in Accy's squad for someone who may have been knocked back at a bigger club and is 'hungry' (Coley's buzzword) for a second chance

I think Jim Bentley sees Shay McCarten as a similar replacement for Jamie Devitt who seems likely to be moving on.

problem with shay is that when he starts a game he seems to be largely anonymous but when he comes off the bench he has at times changed the game and most of his goals are scored as a sub. doesn,t seem that long ago when people weren,t that keen with windass or crooks in the side. one I,d like to keep as he could improve with us and not the one that got away.

I agree entirely. But last season he was at a lower level still, playing for Dunston in the Northern League Division 1. For Michael, I think it's more an issue of enjoying his football than playing at the level he is capable of. I wish him all the best - a great chap.

Its difficult to grasp how we decide who is deserving and who isn't. Time served? Goals scored? I don't understand why some of our players (who have all done their best for the club) get criticised for leaving in a supposed sideways move and others don't.

Proccy's loyalty to Stanley could never be questioned, after an horrendous injury he's decided to pick up the career he chose to study for once it was time for him to hang up his boots & the very best of luck to him.
Going from player to qualified physio is hardly a sideways move, some of us might not have any affection for Portsmouth but I'm sure they'll have cracking facilities which will help Andy to progress further down his new career path.

there,s a difference in a player who has played most of his adult football for a club and moved on as a physio to one who has not been here 5 mins. for a club that resurected his career.

Contracts are negotiated between (and for the benefit of) two parties. At the end of the contract neither party has an obligation to sign another one.

I get that player to physio is not a sideways move hence the apostrophes around sideways in my first post and the word 'supposed' in my second. It was a tongue in cheek reaction, primarily aimed at those giving Tom a hard time on here.

I would find it ridiculous that anyone would criticise Proc, in the same way as I find I ridiculous that anyone would criticise Tom.

With the defenders we had last season , it can only improve this season.

I've been looking at footage of Wakefield playing at The Globe against us last season and I like what I've seen. He is tall and athletic and overlaps well.
