Retained list and / or "moving on"

Has Stanley's list been published, or are we just keeping everyone? :D:D:D

I see Kal Naismith's turned down a new contract at Pompey; anyone know where he's going?

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

9 players including chappers and Scott brown offered new deals. Akeel Francis and mekhi mcleod have left.

Just got to hope they all sign up, not really a surprise about McLeod & Francis - good luck to them

To be honest didn't reckon McLeod was gonna make the grade, wish him well though. Francis cant really say one way or the other.

Rumour mill has Chapman targetted by Wigan, Bolton and Barnsley

First casualty of close season - just been confirmed that Chapman has signed a 2 year contract with that nice Mr Evans' Peterborough team - gutted :(

Shame, but good luck to him. Not many on here would have said he was a massive loss to us before this season just gone. He improved massively.

think Maxteds not a bad keeper so it gives him an opportunity?

A pre-season view probably shared by Coley, or he might well have offered him a longer contract then. Oh well ….

Good luck to Aaron he wasn't offered more than 1 year last season we can't get everything right we have Maxted and another keeper is now a priority just hope we get a good one to create good competition.

smudgie 15-05-2018 17:29

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

Quite a surprise to see Chappers go. As others have said, had a great second half to the season. Just frustrating to see him leave on a freebie.

Big chance for Maxted that's for sure.

Twenty Eight 15-05-2018 20:13

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

Not sure why you say surprised Smudgie. It’s the risk you run allowing players to drift out of contract. It’s not just the pay it’s the length of contract as well. God luck Chappie.

Lord Didsbury 15-05-2018 20:42

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

Good luck to Chappers, but I see this as a good thing for all concerned.

If we get a keeper who can dominate his area more we will be all the better for it.

Maxted may be that man, but if not we will get another. Keepers are like drummers in bands. Highly dispensable.

Where is Jeff these days? He was a good un.

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

I am really disappointed to see Chapman leave us.:(
He is yet another player who came to Stanley lacking confidence and who no other club seemed to want to sign up. The Stanley management and coaching staff have then done a wonderful job yet again in rebuilding the players confidence and have shown great faith in him...............:)
And then sadly he leaves us like so many before!
I know that he will probably be on a much more lucrative deal and he will 'possibly' be playing in a bigger stadium........larger crowds.....better training facilities etc.....will he be warming the bench all season?
But will he enjoy his football as much as he has this season?...... Will his new manager be able to keep Aaron's confidence up and keep him as happy as he has been here at Stanley?.......I doubt it!:hidewall:

Good luck Aaron, You have had a brilliant season..........:alright:
I hope it works out for you at your new club and that you can hold down a regular first team place.

You can’t let your heart rule your head.
He’s got a good offer and security of employment for two years. The lad owes us nothing.
Clearly Coley had his doubts because he wouldn’t have hesitated to sign a 2 year deal.
Then he sees Maxted signed ......
What would you do ?

But the trouble is, most football fans do think with their heart when it comes to their team - it's called passion.
We all can see the logic behind Aaron's decision & most will wish him well - doesn't mean we're not disappointed that he's gone

Twenty Eight 17-05-2018 14:35

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

Accymad,
If you read Choirboy's post he intimates because we've instilled confidence and we signed him when no one else wanted to (I dont agree with either statements by the way) that somehow that meant he should stay.
We didnt show faith - or he would have been given a 2 year deal like the nucleus of the squad.

dabeast 17-05-2018 18:30

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

Twenty eight. I broadly agree, but we DID show faith by offering what Chappie obviously thought was the best deal on the table at the time.

cashman 17-05-2018 19:06

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

I think much faith was shown in chappie,by continuing playing him early season, when his form was way from what it became. also at the time we took him back, please explain who else was after him? I aint knocking the lad for going, but i can't see yer logic twenty eight. Cos i cant see many players choosing us, if another league club is after em.

Faith was shown in Chappie as the season went on but don't forget he was dropped for the Morecombe away game.

Lads had a great season beyond his wildest imaginings.Wish he stayed but wish him all the best with the move.

Really ? I know of 2 clubs interested in Clark when he signed for Accy.

Chewbacca 17-05-2018 23:23

Re: Retained list and / or "moving on"

This was Chapman's first season as a first choice keeper at any pro club, and he aint young.

There is no way any club would have offered him a good 2 year+ deal a year ago, however he did well after losing his spot for 9 mins on the coast, and made the best of it once Max had his tear.

2 recent keepers in play-off finals, one on verge of premier league. Then you have Etheridge who left for a much better deal and is now semi-pro 2 years later, and Chapman and Mooney looked very similar at one stage had completely different fortunes. Fine margins.

I bet they weren't premier league clubs not getting at Clarke but you can't get everything regarding contracts right I liked Chapman great lad but as a goalie he had plenty of faults but he had a great season with us and we move on time will tell if Chapman improves anymore but I wish him well and hopefully we will unearth a gem of a keeper.

"i cant see many players choosing us, if another league club is after em"

Who said anything about Premier for God's sake ?
My comment was in response to this from Cashman.

It's Clark without the E by the way.

Please don't try to suggest what I 'Intimate' in my posts because there is nothing in that post that says I think he should stay!
Rather the opposite in fact, in that I suggest how I fully understand his reasons for going to a 'Bigger' club...etc.

When John and Jimmy have really boosted his confidence he will be more than good enough to be our No 1 keeper....:alright:
We will have to sign another keeper as well though!
