Wombles

Any bets on the starters today?

Barlaser....would like him to start but probably Brown will keep his place.
Zanzala.... would also like to see him start, but might need to wait til we are 1-0 down. Billy alone again, naturally.
Sykes.... I think he will start today due to the centre half rotation policy. Ie, it’s his turn.

No surprises elsewhere.

Clark MOTM???? Quietest game he’s ever had for us.
Did they mean Anderton?

Re: Wombles

That got nervy! First half better team by far, we played some lovely football with the new loan Newcastle midfielder pulling the strings, Wimbledon improved massively after the break. Anderton was very good today solid defensively and good going forward. I like Johnson going forward but we do concede goals down his side. I would like to see hall start instead of zanzala looks more of threat to me. Billy's quality of finishing showed with his goal. I feel 3 points are going to be harder to grind out this year but hopefully we can grind enough wins like today out.

I though Clark was a good threat first half but like a lot of the midfield faded in second half.

Kee/Hall looks a good combo...Zanzala didn’t impress.

A neutral who came with me today thought Hughes or Kee was MOTM.

Can’t work out what our best midfield is.

cashman 22-09-2018 16:29

Re: Wombles

Agree Kee @ Hall look the better pair to me also, the main difference today as far as i'm concerned is the simple FACT we played with 2 strikers. aint rocket science why its taken this long i will never fathom. was a well deserved 3 pts no question at all but as Chevy said it got nervy towards the end, Hughes to me is the man to thank for the extra 2 pts.

Re: Wombles

Hurrah!!! A home win at last.
Billy's early goal instilled confidence in the team & we outplayed the Wombles with some superb one-touch football in the first half.
When super Sean made it 2-0 on 60 minutes an easy win looked on the cards.
Respect to Wimbledon for not rolling-over & when they scored a well taken goal 4 minutes later, the last 30 minutes became a nail-biting affair.
Despite our 2 goals, our keeper & defence won us the game today, with some vital saves & goal-line clearances.
This game followed a script we've all become used to - early domination followed by periods of panic when opponents apply pressure.
Being a Stanley fan is not recommended for those of a nervous disposition.

hall did far more in his time on the pitch than zanzala did all the time he was on it. hope he proves me wrong but i just do not rate the lad.

Why i say i cant fathom 2 strikers, most of last season we played Billy @ Kayden and won the sodding league, this season until today we played 1 yet today we won our first home game???:confused::confused::confused:

He tore them to shreds first half. Get to spec savers.

Re: Wombles

The whole team tore them to shreds for the first 30 mins, Twenty Eight. The Clark/Johnson combo was very effective. Second half he was never brought into the game at all...not his fault.

Re: Wombles

For the size of him Zanzala seems to be nudged off the ball very easily and goes to ground easily. Is there any training for him to build his body strength happening?

Re: Wombles

We battered the Wombles in the first half, second half they'd obviously had a rocket & came out a different team - dirty tactics as always which ref never got a grip on but on the whole we fully deserved the 3 points although we should never have been hanging on towards the end, thank goodness for the Herculean clearance from Mr. Reliable, Mark Hughes.
First home win under our belt, onwards & upwards Stanley :)

There were 2 or 3 long balls today intended for Zanzala to run onto when one-on-one with their last defender.
On every occasion he either lost control or got muscled off the ball.
These were the type of balls that Kayden Jackson thrived on last season.
Despite being as thin as a rake, Kayden always managed to control the ball & skin much bigger defenders.
Sadly, I can't see OZ turning into The Wizard

How did Barlaser do?

Re: Wombles

Come on Twenty Eight, it’s not mutually exclusive that in the first 30 mins Clark/Johnson were effective but that overall Clark had a very quiet game.

(Let me know if you need any further guidance on mutual exclusivity, or good manners.)

Re: Wombles

Tom D - Barlaser did ok, but no surprise when subbed.

He’s pretty good with 40 yard passes out to the wings.

Have a look at the extended highlights because you must have missed a lot. You said he had his quietest game EVER !! Accymad .... have a word because you are much respected on here.

With pleasure, Twenty Eight, if you can point me in the direction of extended highlights.

Are you sure he even touched the ball more than once in the second half? I remember he ran it into the corner during injury time (and tripped over his shoelaces and gave a goal kick).

funny as well it made the game much more exciting as well. the first half went by without me looking at the clock. it will certainly get those occasional fans to come back for more unlike some other games.

Re: Wombles

That is one of the best first half displays by an Accrington side I have witnessed differences for me were 2 upfront and though a few on here think Zanzala isn,t any good he caused there defence endless problems with is willingness to run at the defence agree he needs a bit more strength and stay on his feet more but he is a raw talent that will get better good use of the squad today by the management all team were for me 7 to 9,s, some really good players can,t even make the bench stay around the play off places and the floating fans will be back.

agreed about everything there apart from zanzala. i know its all about opinions and you have the right to yours but i could not see for one minuit of the game what problems he actually caused em in the game apart from them having to release someone to mark him giving others more space.

Speaking of strikers, did anyone spot we were giving a potential new centre-forward a try out after the game yesterday - watch over Coley's left shoulder during his post match interview on Fishy ……...

Yes. I thought that last ditch tackle to deny him the goal was a bit harsh.

No point playing Barlaser supplying 40 yard passes out to the wings if the wingers are going to be quiet.
