2018/19 Prediction League; Game 41 v Wimbledon (away)

After 18 games TheProperWimbledon FC had 11 points (3 wins, two draws and 13 defeats) a -16 GD, and were only prevented from being The Worst Side in League One by the generosity of Bratfud, who were worserer ................. and guess who the Wombles play in their last game of the season? What about Wombles v Bratfud for a real twelve-pointer Greasy-Pole avoider? After 18 games, on the other hand, we had 28 points and were 10th, having arguably peaked a little too early for our own good ..................... after 31 games they had 23 points, and were rock-bottom, 10 points and a mountain of goals from safety; we’d played 29 and had 36 points in 16th place

And then suddenly they woke up (I don’t know if they smelled the coffee or not), because of their last nine in the League they’ve won six (1-0 at Walsall, 4-3 at Rochdoodles, 1-0 at Sarfend and 2-1 at the Ironing, and 2-0 over Donnie and 1-0 against the Posh (in the space of four days) at home); they also drew 0-0 at the Shrews, losing only twice – 2-1 at home to Charlton and 4-2 at home to Gillingham) ............... 19 points from 9 games, five clean sheets and 14 scored with 10 conceded ............. slightly over two points a game is, of course, promotion form (97 points over a season of 46 games). Ooopsie!

After us they finish with Oxford (away) – 10 points from their last 5 games and 12th; Brizzle (5 points and 16th place on 45) at home, Luton Louts (away), Wycombe – one point in five games and 17th on 44 (home) and Bratfud – 3 points from five games, and 24th on 36 points (away) ............. you’d really have to fancy them to do it

They came to us on 22nd September and lost 2-1 (Billy Whizz on 6 mins and Sean McGettingalotofcriticismagain on 60); we won four times more over the next month, since which time (in 25 games) we’ve only won four more in total, and it’s all Getting Very Worrying ................... innit.

They did Irish Week in January, ProperSigning two AMFs – both Irish – being Dylan Thomas – no, sorry, Dylan Connolly – from Dundalk and Shane McLoughlin from Ipswich, so they did ............... they also Loaned In three more players – none of them Irish; Cherries’ GK Aaron Ramsdale, Birmingham LB Steve Seddon and Watford forward Michael Folivi ............ out went RW Kosta Sparta (which sounds like the name of a coffee shop attached to Dutch Second Division Club) and CMF Liam Trotter, who re-located to Orange County (California), where they play in the Second Division (the USL Championship) under the management of Braedon Cloutier, whose playing career of 20 years featured just about every US Soccer team, including the San Diego Sockers, the Wichita Wings, the San Jose Clash, the Charleston Battery, the New England Revolution and the Cleveland Force ............ where on earth do they dream their names up from? A shed-load of people you’ll never have heard on went out on loan, all to non-League except for Albanian SS (stands for Strong Safety – have you seen Albanian teams play?) Egli Kaja (my laptop auto-corrected his name to Ugli Kaja!) who now plays for Livingston

Hands up if you’re really worried about our League One status? If we don’t get anything against Uncle Bulgaria on Saturday, and Scunthorpe get a point at the Shrews and any of Southend (at Fleetwood), Walsall (at home to Oxford) or Rochdale (who entertain Slumberland) win, then we’ll be in the bottom four, and if all three of Southend, Walsall and Rochdale happen to win and Scunnie get anything, we’ll be next to bottom ............ But it won’t happen, cos We’re The Stanley, and we eat trees for breakfast!

Form sides are Pompey and Wimbledon (12/15), Luton, Sunderland and Charlton (11/15), and Oxford (10/15); Bottom of the Food Chain are Southend and Wycombe (1/15) followed by Bradford, Walsall, Scunnie and us (3/15) ................. and it’s getting very sweaty indeed – so much so that I can’t think of a Starter for Ten – so I’ll do two next time! The Wombles' leading scorers are Joe Pigott with 13, Kwesi Appiah with 6, and James Hanson with 5 ......……… and did you see that Kevin Bond's got a shorthold assured tenancy on the Manager's chair at Southend, and that ex Rochdoodle MF Brian Barry-Murphy is now their new Manager? Welcome to the frying pan …….. or is it the fire?

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 6th April (start of the new Tax Year!) ................ all kinds of jokes there somewhere, but I’m too worried to look for them!

Good luck to everyone! ................ Keep the Faith! .................. And thanks for playing!
