Thumbs up A deserving case...

Whilst perusing the online sports pages of the Daily Telegraph, I came across this little article. I thought I'd share it with you: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mai...9/ixfooty.html

Should forward it to the Observer, show them how you should write about our club.

Re: A deserving case...

I enjoyed that, something I feel that can be built on locally as well as nationally. Maybe the area will be a little less depressed if people can begin to learn to take pride in the efforts of the club and a hand full of die hards. Perhaps this is the first example of the staring of a once and future giant.

Great article, thanks for that, Sparkologist. Just one factual error - Stanley were not the first Football League club to be unable to fulfill their fixtures. That dubious honour went to Wigan Borough who resigned from the league on October 26th, 1931 (and just look where their successors are now!).

I like the idea of "Stanley - The Movie". I reckon the bloke who plays Ken, the landlord in Early Doors would be perfect for the part of Eric!

Who'll play Coley in the film?

Would Ricky Tomlinson shave off his beard?

My arse he would.

Good article.

Re: A deserving case...

Ricky George has been a wonderful friend of Non-League Football for many years, and has always been generous toward Accrington Stanley in his DT column.

One week before his recent article in praise of Stanley (which, of course I cut out and saved !) he wrote an even more interesting piece about the recent history of Maidstone United.

Maidstone's historic parallel with Stanley is quite astonishing.

Check it out !

Re: A deserving case...

cheers for the link henry morton, i have mentioned the similarity between your home town and mine in the past, but given the choice of watching stanley or the stones it will have to be stanley, who knows perhaps when the stones ground is finished a freindly between the two, what a great opening game it would be for me, and the mighty ultras could show the stones fans how to support their team
