Definitely not. He has been a big disappointment to me. We could do a lot worse than stick Carver and Dixon up front. At least the opposition defence would know they had been in a game, unlike yesterday. Where was Carver, by the way? I hope he is not sulking.

To me Carver has shown he's a million miles away from being ready for this level, Dixon has had a lively 20 minutes but that's it. We need a proper target man

A new deal as what ? Don't forget Beattie is actually player/coach. No idea what coaching experience/knowledge he has, presumably getting his badges.

At least I'm not a lone voice in the wilderness now

Re: Beattie contract ends 09/01/2013

It depends what the deal is; if it's payment by goals, then maybe. But otherwise it seems like a bit of a distraction that hasn't really delivered the goods. Having said that, Stanley's decline did not start with Beattie's arrival (Torquay away was my first sight of a problem) and no one player should be expected to either carry the whole team nor take the whole blame.

Re: Beattie contract ends 09/01/2013

Well, I've been underwhelmed by Beattie since his arrival despite that great goal in the FA Cup.

However, if we are to add some experience and quality to the side, he is a very useful player to have in the team (see Nicky Hunt's comments, for example). With the addition of some 'steel' in midfield, I'm more confident that we will stay up this season, provided we can also hold onto Rommy and Molyneux.

Re: Beattie contract ends 09/01/2013

Whilst he has hardly set the world alight, he offers some experience that we are seriously lacking in other areas on the pitch. I think he needs to be pushed further up the pitch, he was always a goal poacher and thats about it! So we should try playing to his stengths a bit more in terms playing 2 wingers who can put plenty of crosses in for him to get on the end of. Molyneux on the left and Boco on the right maybe.

And someone who has the strength of will to really LEAD the Team through the current lapse in Stanley's form... WR,does this element not equate with the 'steel' which like so many more you crave at this juncture ?.

Re: Beattie contract ends 09/01/2013

Hmm, 'lead' or 'steel'? A blunt, heavy object with which to batter the opposition or something shiny to slice through it? Either sounds good to me

I remember Howard Wilkinson taking over a Leeds Utd team in the doldrums and signing Vinnie Jones the next summer. He was the type of player needed for Leeds to prosper in (the old) Second Division, according to Wilkinson. They won promotion the next season, sold Vinnie Jones for a good profit and had won the old First Division title within two seasons. I think we'll start to see the best of our creative players like Miller, Boco and Molyneux, and maybe even Beattie, if there is an 'Vinnie Jones'-type player in the spine of the team ... at least at this level of football!

I think its great that he's resigned-what a huge vote of confidence from someone who's been at the top and I would guess that he could've commanded a higher fee with another club.
Good onya James.
