Cambridge United - the end is nigh

Spare a thought for Cambridge United.

Upon return to pre-season they have just 13 players in their squad. Rob Newman -caretaker manager - has no money to spend and cannot sign players due to the club being in administration. On top of relegation the club are likely to begin life in the conference with a ten-point deduction-a-la-Northwich.

I for one feel extremlely sorry for them and this is not the way football should be.

I dearly hope that a lot of Stanley fans make the journey to Cambridge on the second weekend of the season just to help them out a bit.

The end of one football club in the lower leagues would mean the end for a host of others too, it makes you realise just how lucky Stanley are to be a club on the way up because for Cambridge, the only way is down.

Its called bad administration and Stanley arn't lucky to be on the way up they have had there time in the doldrums and now thankfully are being run correctly, so another team bites the dust thats the way of the world Telford went by the wayside guess what not the end of Football and how could Cambridge effect lower league clubs more like supporters will go and watch Diss or Ely giving Lower league clubs more revenue.

Lucky? Stanley are definatly not lucky!!!

A club swamped in history that only recently has started to become good once again and that is not through luck but is through a dam site lot of hard work and getting the right people in to do that hard work!!!

Cambridge are not dying.. there not very well but they will survive so when I go there it will be for Stanley not for them...

If a club dies then yes... my bleeding heart will be out... but its just another club falling on bad times like many others.... I can think of a couple of hundred club who would gladly swap places with them.. Including great harwood town.. they are having more probems than cambridge but you think stanley fans should make an effort to help cambridge ? If you want to help a club on bad times then go watch harwood when you cant get to a stanley away game or the fixtures dont clash..

Cambridge Utd have always had problems with attacting crowds and therefore raising money, mainly due to the fact that hardly anyone in Cambridge is interested in football. Even when they were on the verge of winning promotion to the First Division (now Premiership), they struggled to get the 12,000 capacity. Wasn't John Beck the manager then? It was certainly after Ron Atkinson had left.

Anyway, it's sad to see a club like that having so many problems. No doubt they have a loyal band of diehards who have sweated blood for their cause (just like Stanley and many others) and it's those fans, etc I feel sorry for.

I'm saying lucky as in the fact that stanley are fortunate to

be well run by its chairman and the others (rob -etc)
have a long serving and successful coaching team
have solid financial backing from local businesses
have potential for success

etc etc etc

not a lot of clubs can boast these attributes - that'w what I meant

Adam, I think rumours of Cambridge's demise have been somewhat exaggerated. They will do what so many clubs in their position have done - come to an agreement to pay xxp in the pound to their creditors and then carry on as usual. And if they're so hard up, how come they're planning a new stadium?

Adam calm down...... dont go out your way to make arguments or you look silly... Cambridge have fallen on bad times.. no one at cambridge is saying its the end of the club... now unless you have facts to show different then there not closing down.... thats that..

Didn't quite do your homework right Adam, Cambridge went into administration towards the end of last season and were deducted the 10 points at that time so they will come into the conference with a clean sheet in that respect.
