The problem with playing in May/July is it would undoubtedly be behind closed doors and as Andy Holt explains this would just be another expense that most clubs haven't got so just creating more problems without crowds especially lower leagues that is a catastrophe especially the likes of Sunderland who must be paying most of their wages in comparison to gate receipts.

E.F.L. think about 56 days - 8 weeks - to complete the season (P.O. inc.) when season re-starts

All assumption based though doesn't address financial implications and why even talk of play offs.

Re: Coronovirus

JRick Parry's date of 16th May to resume training already looks wildly optimistic as politicians already saying lockdown likely to the end of May as the infection peak is 2 to 3 weeks away, that would push his plan if everyone agrees to it likely end of season first week in August.

thats really true. football with crowds or no football at all. who would foot the bill for stanleys trip to gillingham. just another way to make the situation worse for struggling clubs that need every penny at the moment and not throwing it away.

Re: Coronovirus

Going to unfortunately through no fault of their own be a lot of players without a club as this scenario plays out, clubs going bust, clubs reducing cost. I,d like to know what the collective chairmen of the EFL clubs think of Rick Parry and the EFL,s plan.

I think I know what you mean MH, but Stanley would be footing the bill regardless of the situation....

Exactly with no income and just borrowed money from the EFL, if EFL want a behind closed doors finish to the season they should finance it.

Re: Coronovirus

Behind closed doors is no problem for the two big money-bags businesses behind the Prawn Sandwich League.
Fan-less games could be still televised, with a bit of canned crowd noise added for atmosphere, and will be bought by armchair subscribers.
And the gambling companies can still extract money from mugs online by betting on such games.
As for any team outside of the PL...I doubt they can expect much solidarity from the above sources.

Re: Coronovirus

I can see this causing a bit of falling out between clubs and EFL time for a bit of unity among clubs Andy Holt not keen on it, he,s said already the cost to budget could be a 25% hit without throwing any more down the drain of this plan.

Re: Coronovirus

The problem with the EFL and other footballing authorities is they seem to only have a short term plan which is finish the season when government allows and we will get the money and it's fine. Problem is it won't be it wasn't fine with a lot of clubs before this pandemic a long term plan needs thinking about and how to finance it. Next season might well be a long way off to just prioritize this season's end is short sighted financial madness.
