Re: Mangan Back??
You're not far wrong Sparkie !!...although it's not just our mid-field that seem to spend their time chasing opponents back towards their own goal, for the rest of the defence often find themselves in this catch-up situation...the third of Lincoln's goals would be a good example of this!..
Is it due to the absence of a real defensive Leader who can organise the back line into maintaining some discipline..particularly when facing freekicks and Corners...there does often seem to be some disarray on these occasions with everyone making suggestions as to what to do..and who to mark...these, as we all know have resulted in so many goals against during this campaign.
As the zenith of my Soccer achievement was to cut up the oranges for the Second Eleven's half-time refreshments...It is for sure that I am no Soccer Tactician!...
However , it is not too difficult to spot the same errors being made over and over again.
Perhaps a 'Leader' in the centre of a 'settled' defence..and Kenny back on song...just might result in a stem of the goals which are regularly filling the back of the Red's net!
THIS SATURDAY ?????.......ON STANLEY!....ON!!!!

Re: Mangan Back??
Jeffs right, Coley should be attending to the defence as a priority. Mangans a nice lad but just not good enough. Unless he has improved dramatically during his stay at Bury. Smacks a bit of panic measures by Coley. We don't need to call for a replacement Manager. Just leave him to it. He will shoot himself in his own foot before long. Just get behind whatever cast off and unwanted players he decides to put out.

Does anybody know if Cav is coaching defence while he's recovering.

Re: Mangan Back??
Good luck to Andy on his return!
The good thing with Leighton now also fit is we now have three Strikers
Here's an odd suggestion but the more I think about it the more it could be the answer short term to our defensive frailities
Try Mullers at Centre Half, whenever I see him back defending he always seems to do a decent job, he has the height and will know most of the tricks Centre Forwards are likely to try, with being Team Captain at the moment I am sure he commands the respect of the rest of his teamates and could just give us that communication between the back four that we seem to miss
Then we could also try Mangan & McGivern up front

Re: Mangan Back??
I always thought we'd see Mullers move to the back line before his career finishes but the more I think about it the more I think that he is too nice and honest to be a dirty ****** centre half. He'd be crucified by some of the animals that play up front in this league

Re: Mangan Back??
yeah but thats because ....... I dunno why! gets punished 10 times a game usually when jumping for goal kicks, but he doesn't lead with his arm, he doesn't back in particularly and he gets bruised and ripped shirts every game. Last year he came second in the fouls conceded league with about 140 fouls BUT NO BOOKINGS

Doesn't this table include offsides as well? I thought yellow cards were nullified after four or five games without a booking - can anyone confirm?

I think there is a point, something like the 3rd sunday in March, whereby the cards don't count towards the accumulated total. Otherwise they do rack up regardless of time.

Just checked and in PM's case he won't be suspended if he doesn't get cautioned before the end of February;
For the geeks, here's the rules
PUNISHMENTS – Relating to First Team Competitive Matches (a) CAUTIONS ADMINISTERED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY
(i) If a Player accumulates five recorded cautions in FTCM between the
opening day of the Playing Season and the last day in February in
the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period
covering: One First Team Match (ii) If a Player accumulates five recorded cautions in FTCM between the
opening day of the Playing Season and the last day of the same
Season, he will be: - “Warned as to his Future Conduct” (iii) A Player who has already been subject to disciplinary action as a
result of recording five cautions and then proceeds to record a further
five cautions during the same Season, will be subject to the following
punishments: -
(iv) If a Player accumulates ten recorded cautions in FTCM between the
opening day of the Playing Season and the second Sunday of April in
the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period
covering:- Two First Team matches (v) If a Player accumulates ten recorded cautions in FTCM between the
opening day of the Playing Season and the last day of the same
Season, he will be: - “Severely Censured and Warned as to his future Conduct” (vi) If a Player accumulates 15 recorded cautions in FTCM between the
opening date of the Playing Season and the last day of the same
Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering: - Three First Team matches (vii) A Player who has already been subject to disciplinary action as a
result of recording five, ten and 15 cautions, and who goes on to
record 20 cautions in FTCM in the same Season, shall be required to
attend a meeting of a Regulatory Commission, within seven days of
the date of the last caution. The Members of a Regulatory
Commission will have the power to deal with the Player in such
manner as they deem fit. The same procedure will apply for every
further five cautions recorded against that Player.
(viii) Any period of suspension arising from recording cautions will
commence on the seventh day following the date of his last offence.
The suspension will cover all approved First Team matches until
such time as his Club’s First Team has completed the number of
matches appropriate to the punishment in approved Competitions
during the period covered by its opening league match and ending
with the final match | |
