Re: Mathematically impossible

These are my workings

To be absolutly sure of winning we need 27 points (at the moment)

Below is list of the maximum points each team could get if they win every game

Accrington 106
Hereford 93
Grays 90
Exeter 86
Stevenage 86
Morecombe 87
Halifax 87
Woking 83
Gravesend 84
York 83
Dag and Red 79
Burton 77
Aldeshot 77
Alty 72
Cambridge 75
Kiddy 71
Canvey 71
Forest 68
Tamworth 69
Crawley 70
Southport 65
Scarboough 61

At the moment we need to beat Hereford with a possible maximum of 93.
That leaves us 27 points to get
Of course this will all change after tonight but for all those number crunchers I'll keep you posted. (If you want)
You'll have to forgive all the maths (I am a teacher after all!)

Hope someone finds this interesting

COME ON YOU REDS

Yes, spot on. I think some people got it, and had a laugh, some went off on a tangent, and some people proved that Maths is not for them.

Me, I will just keep on ploughing a sad furrow, the ultimate humiliation is sharing this sad thought with everyone, on my excel spreadsheet teams turn a different colour when they can't catch Stanley.

Counting them out one by one, only when it was mathematically certain, was a way of not sayin what we're all thinking, but are too nice to say.

(Shakermaker, alright then, it's been a long day)

Re: Mathematically impossible

If (when) we beat Burton; Crawley, Canvey and Altrincham are added to list.

Sorry I'm breaking my own rules now. This was meant to be a slow exposition of teams that can't beat us. San Fairy Anne.

Talking Re: Mathematically impossible

this is making my brain hurt!!!!
i should just mention that a fat lady carrying sheet music has just passed me heading north.....rumour has it she wont be stopping in hereford to sing
my best calculation is that if we have more points than everyone else, or the same number of points but a better goal difference we will be champions. does that help

Re: Mathematically impossible

we have 67 points on the board, Hereford can get 93. 93 minus 67 equals 26 equals nine wins. That is assuming that Hereford beat us. If we beat Hereford then they can only get 90 points leaving us to get 23 points ergo 8 wins. Every time they drop 2 or 3 points then we need one win less (ish).

Hope this finally stops all the calculator tapping.

So if Hereford continue winning including or excluding their game against us, the earliest we could mathematically wrap up the title would be York away or Grays at home. Therefore I conclude that I hope we both continue winning, we draw at Hereford and then wrap up the title on All Fools Day at home to Grays (where the Impossible Dream started I do believe) in front of a capacity crowd.

If we beat Hereford it will be 2 less wins we need as it is a 6pointer !!
