Re: New central defender

Taken from Sky Sports Website:-

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman is on the brink of signing Portuguese defender Mauro Silva Almeida, as they look to safeguard their Football League status.
The League Two strugglers have returned from their training session in Spain with former Porto centre-back Almeida in tow.
Stanley do not return to action until 3rd February when Chester City are the visitors to The Fraser Eagle Stadium.
And a club spokesman has come out to clarify the situation, as it seems a mere matter of time before Almeida completes a move.
"The team only got back from Spain last night. He is just on trial at the moment but he is going to sign soon," a club spokesman revealed. Stanley are currently 18th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone though, and will hope Almeida's experience can help them preserve their League status.

Must admit He did look strong in Training this morning.

Maybe Toddy was translating from Scouse into English .

Thanks for the all info. The new hombre sounds promising. Pity about McGivern though. I was hoping he'd recover quicker, as I reckon he'd make a real difference. No sign of Boco?

Re: New central defender

Oh aye, Rommy was there. Worryingly though, in the last bit of their training when all the squad had to take shots on goal and once they had scored do a couple of laps of the pitch, the last two to score (and who were out there on their own for quite a while after the others had finished) were Rommy & David Brown, they both seemed to be struggling to find the net

No one here knows if we've signed him or not yet, so a little less sarcasm is in order I think!

There's a typo on t'fishy site; it's really Mauro Alexandre da Silva Almeida; five words not four! But most people seem just to call him Mauro Almeida.

Re: New central defender

You might not be calling him anything. He hasn't signed yet.

They've probably offered him £25 a week and a YTS placement at EW Cartons.

Re: New central defender

On fishy site now - he's officially signed - just waiting for his international clearance now and could be playing tomorrow for reserves against Oldham and/or against Chester on Saturday
