It was good to give Smithy a proper send-off today, but it was a shame that it was not brilliantly attended.

One thing that crossed my mind, though, was what criteria are there for a player to get a testimonial? Is it games played, or something else?

My understanding is 5 years service at this level gets you a testimonial. But I wouldn't go writing that in stone..

Turnout was poor IMHO

I was also very disappointed at the turnout. I had turned down going on a do to manchester and I also heard from a couple who had set off back from hols in cornwall at 5.30am this morning to make the match. I suppose some supporters who would have liked to have been there were on hols but I still think more could have turned up. All the best smithy xx

Very disappointing gate. I didn't expect anything else from the apathetic Accrington public at large, but I would have thought more IES regulars would have turned up. I managed to get there on public transport from Stockport - what a pity some fans couldn't even be bothered to walk up the road.

Smithy has been a loyal servant to the club and has played his part in our considerable progress over the last few seasons. Some fans have very short memories.

Re: Pic of the day - Jimmy Bell

Thanks for your answer Kipax. We were talking about it yesterday and in the programme it said Smithy was only the third player to be granted a testimonial. Jamie Speare and David Hargreaves I'd assume were the others.

I just wondered why other long serving players, like for example Chris Grimshaw, hadn't been granted a testimonial? It was just something that came up in conversation.

The turnout was very poor and I was very disappointed. I'd have thought that at least 600 regulars would have attended.
