Having watched him (Belford) a few times...he's a very good keeper at this level...
Other option... Throw an 18 year old in for a league debut at a game..... where we'll play in front of a hostile 6-7k+ plus....with a makeshift defence in front of him??? Where we may take a hiding??? Destroy the lad's confidence????  Dawber may play a blinder (if played) , but I can understand Leam's reasoning!! Get 50+ points on the board ( & SAFE ) then blood talent.

Belford confirmed - ASFC News Story > 5159 - lots of fiddly paperwork and whatnot for these emergency loans, hence the late arrival (just ask Mr. T!)
To clarify the Dawber situation I believe that the management are very keen to give him a pro deal (and have been for some time) BUT if he signs as a pro then the club aren't allowed to bring in an emergency loan, which would only leave Dawber available... and as we've seen in recent weeks it's probably a good idea to have two keepers available!

to answer to Nige b, i dont think we will ever beat 3 keepers in one day.
20/8/2005 away v cambridge united, Jones jacked midweek, Gallagher was signed and a lad called harrison, gallagher didn't turn up harrison was on the bench bertrand bossu played in goal, that was a disaster he couldn't catch a cold, all three never played again, in came randolph all history |
